Luton Town will hope to improve their chances of avoiding relegation when they take on Millwall at home in the Championship on Saturday.
Back-to-back relegations are a distinct possibility for the Hatters, who have found it tough to settle back into second-tier football.
Luton were hoping for a boost after persuading Bloomfield to join them from League One highflyers Wycombe, but they were beaten 3-2 at Oxford on Tuesday and are still searching for the first win of 2025.
Another team smarting from a slow start to the year are Millwall, whose only taste of victory came when they triumphed 3-0 at home to Dagenham and Redbridge in the FA Cup third round.
The Lions have gone six Championship games without a win and are sitting just five points above the bottom three.
Luton to win - 23/20
Out-of-sorts Luton are in the Championship relegation zone after taking one point from their last six league matches, but they can stop the slide by defeating Millwall in a key match for both clubs.
After winning a lot of admirers during their failed bid to stay in the Premier League, Luton have found it tougher to cope with their struggles in the Championship.
They have been especially poor on their travels, losing 12 of 14 away games, and may require a continuation of solid home form to get out of trouble.
Twenty-two of Luton’s 26 points have been gathered at Kenilworth Road and there is every chance of a positive outcome against Millwall, who are in danger of being pulled into the relegation scrap.
The Lions reached the end of November in tenth place after putting together a nine-game unbeaten sequence.
But they have mustered only six points from their last ten matches and were denied a first league win under Alex Neil on Tuesday when squandering a two-goal advantage in a 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff.
Millwall have won only one of their 12 Championship away fixtures and they head to Luton with a depleted squad after the recent sale of Romain Esse to Crystal Palace and midweek injuries suffered by Ryan Leonard and Danny McNamara.
Some of the funds from Esse’s sale are likely to be reinvested in the final days of the transfer window and the outcome of that recruitment drive will be crucial to the team’s survival prospects.
In the meantime, Millwall are short of quality players and confidence and they appear ideal opposition for a Luton team in need of a lift.
Mark McGuinness to score anytime - 10/1
Luton are a threat from set-pieces thanks to a pair of physical centre-forwards, Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris, and some expert deliveries, often provided by left-back Alfie Doughty.
They also possess powerful centre-backs, including Mark McGuinness, who can be a menace in the penalty area.
McGuinness has netted in two of his last three league appearances and appeals as a 10/1 shot to get on the scoresheet.
George Saville to be carded - 21/10
The midfield area will be hotly contested, but that won’t concern Millwall’s combative Northern Ireland international George Saville, who relishes the physical side of the game.
Saville has committed 32 fouls in league matches this season and has probably been fortunate to amass only five yellow cards.
However, there could be plenty more cautions on the way, starting with a booking in Bedfordshire.
