Luton v Nottingham Forest: Predictions, Tips and Odds

Luton need the scars of Wednesday’s astonishing defeat at Bournemouth to have worn off as they prepare for a crunch relegation showdown against Nottingham Forest.

The Hatters led 3-0 at half-time at the Vitality Stadium only to leave empty-handed after conceding four second-half goals and miss the opportunity to move out of the bottom three.

Luton v Nottingham Forest betting tips and predictions

Over 2.5 Goals/Both Teams To Score - Yes @ 10/11

How Luton react to Wednesday’s remarkable collapse at Bournemouth will go some way to determining how they get on in their next relegation six-pointer - but one guarantee seems to be that it won’t be dull.

Forest, interested observers of Wednesday night’s drama at the Vitality Stadium, are the visitors to Kenilworth Road in a crunch match at the foot of the Premier League.

Luton and Forest flip-flopped places during the week with the Hatters starting the night in 18th and one place below Forest.

By half-time and with a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead they had leapfrogged Nuno Santo’s side. Forty-five agonising minutes later and it was back to as you were courtesy of Bournemouth’s incredible fightback to win 4-3.

It looks like it’s going to be that sort of run-in with neither Luton nor Forest particularly trustworthy, both capable of scoring plenty of goals - Town have found the net more often than Manchester United - but both vulnerable to shipping in big numbers.

It was 2-2 when they met at the City Ground in October and more fireworks are envisaged in the return.

Since Luton stunned Brighton 4-0 at the end of January, Rob Edwards’ men have played eight matches in all competitions. Both teams have scored in all eight, producing a grand total of 42 goals.

They are piling up the chances, but look incapable of keeping a clean sheet.

Forest have won just once in league and FA Cup combat since the turn of the year, though head for Luton on the back of a trip of hard-luck stories, a series of luckless 1-0 losses against Manchester United, Liverpool and finally Brighton.

They have been on a tough run of fixtures but the next three - Luton away then a home double-header against Crystal Palace and Fulham - have to be targeted for six points or more.

Morgan Gibbs-White Anytime Scorer @ 13/5

Luton have conceded 27 goals in their last eight matches, a wretched record of defensive dismay that ultimately could be their undoing.

They are offering up too many chances and Premier League players don’t need too many invitations before they accept the gifts, as Morgan Gibbs-White can do at Kenilworth Road.

Gibbs-White, like so many of Nuno’s pacy attackers, is a real threat, especially as games open up or opponents are caught with too many bodies forward.

And Luton are the definition of gung-ho at the moment which means Forest - and Gibbs-White - will get chances.

The former England Under-21 star is having a decent season with three goals and with a bit of luck could have had many more. He looks a constant threat and no regular in the Forest side has fired off more shots than he has - he is averaging 1.8 per game.

Reece Burke Over 0.5 Shots on Target @ 5/1

No team has conceded more goals from set-plays this season than Forest and that leaves them vulnerable to an area where Luton seem well-drilled.

There is plenty of height in the Town side and that includes central defender Reece Burke, who is a real threat in the air.

He has only started 12 Premier League matches this season because of injuries but in two of them - the 2-1 loss to West Ham and 3-1 defeat by Sheffield United - he had three efforts on goal.

Only giant frontman Carlton Morris has averaged more aerials won than Burke, who has yet to score this season but has come close and the 5/1 he gets an effort on target looks a decent price.
