Luton v Manchester City: Tips, Predictions & Odds

Treble winners Manchester City are firmly in the race for the Premier League title and will fancy themselves to claim an eighth FA Cup success this season.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side discovered in December that nothing can be taken for granted when visiting Luton and the memories of the tough nature of their 2-1 success will be prominent as they head back to Kenilworth Road on Tuesday.

The Hatters have reserved some of their best performances this season for the times they have faced the Premier League big guns since they were promoted and did enough in that previous meeting to suggest they will give it a good go against the holders.

Erling Haaland has been struggling to get into full flow since he returned from injury, but Phil Foden has looked sharp and can make an impression in Bedfordshire, where Ross Barkley is providing excellent support and experience for the home side in their first season back in the big time since 1992.

Luton v Manchester City betting tips and predictions

Manchester City & both teams to score - 7/4

City were definitely shaken on their last visit to Luton, as they needed goals from Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish to drag them to three points after they fell behind to an Elijah Adebayo effort right on half-time.

And it is not just the Citizens who have been severely tested at Kenilworth Road, where Arsenal needed an injury-time winner and Liverpool claimed a point with an equaliser in the closing stages too, so Rob Edwards’ side have been no respecters of reputations.

The atmosphere at the crammed venue should be intense again and the home side should continue to be positive, with direct tactics likely to threaten the City goal again.

The champions plainly have the class to get the job done and have scored three goals in five of their last seven away matches, but Guardiola’s side have kept two clean sheets in their last 10 on their travels - at Bournemouth on Saturday and at Tottenham in the previous round.

With the Hatters scoring in 12 of their 14 games on their own patch this season, there is potential for the home team to find the net even if they are unable to do enough to land a famous victory.

Phil Foden to score at any time - 15/8

Anyone who expected Erling Haaland to have emerged from his injury break in flying form will have been a bit underwhelmed with the Norwegian’s performances of late, but the same cannot be said of his teammate Phil Foden.

The England midfielder has been one of City’s most consistent players over the last few weeks, which was epitomised by his hat-trick in the recent 3-1 victory at Brentford.

He took his league tally for the season to nine with the winner at Bournemouth on Saturday and his high confidence levels are apparent from looking at his statistics.

Foden has had at least three goal attempts in 10 of his last 12 appearances for City and 13 shots on target in his last six games, so if Haaland is unable to find his rhythm once again at Kenilworth Road, it would not be a surprise if the Stockport Iniesta stepped into the breach again and found the net.

Ross Barkley over 0.5 shots on target - 2/1

It seems likely that Luton will be positive even if they are unable to come out on top against the FA Cup holders, and one player who could make his presence felt is Ross Barkley.

The former Everton and Chelsea midfielder has found his way back into the game at the Hatters and a move to Kenilworth Road looks to have definitely suited both parties.

He has scored three league goals this season and none of Edwards’s players have had more efforts on goal in Premier League fixtures than Barkley’s tally of 45.

He will not be shy when it comes to having an attempt, which makes a quote of 2/1 that he has a shot on target look a decent price.
