Luton v Aston Villa: Tips, Predictions and Odds

Luton and Aston Villa have provided some great entertainment in this season's Premier League and Saturday's clash at Kenilworth Road should be well worth watching.

The Hatters thumped Brighton 4-0 at the end of January before a thrilling 4-4 draw at Newcastle but they have lost their three subsequent league matches against bottom club Sheffield United, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Rob Edwards' men were outclassed by Manchester City in Tuesday's FA Cup fifth-round tie as Erling Haaland scored five goals in a 6-2 rout for the Citizens at Kenilworth Road.

And Luton's defence can expect another tough 90 minutes against a Villa side whose push for Champions League qualification shows no sign of faltering.

Unai Emery's men have been in free-scoring form, winning three of their last four league games including a 5-0 drubbing of Sheffield United and a 4-2 home victory over Nottingham Forest last time out.

Luton v Aston Villa betting tips and predictions

Aston Villa to win and both teams to score @ 15/8

Luton's seven league defeats since the start of December were by 3-1, 4-3, 2-1, 3-2, 3-1, 2-1 and 4-1 scorelines and another high-scoring loss could be on the cards against Aston Villa.

The Hatters have taken a bold approach in their bid to avoid Premier League relegation and they have consistently caused problems for the top clubs this season.

Arsenal needed an injury-time goal from Declan Rice to pinch a 4-3 win at Kenilworth Road in December and Luton led Liverpool 1-0 until the 56th minute of last week's 4-1 defeat at Anfield.

The Hatters have scored in all but two of their 14 matches against top-half teams this term, including October's 3-1 defeat at Villa Park, but injuries are starting to take their toll on the squad.

Staying in the Premier League was always going to be a struggle given the club's limited resources and the absences of captain Tom Lockyer, midfielder Marvelous Nakamba and impressive striker Elijah Adebayo have not helped the cause.

No matter who starts for the Hatters, they should still play on the front foot with the outstanding Ross Barkley pulling the strings in midfield and Carlton Morris up front.

However, Villa will be fresher than their hosts after a blank midweek schedule and England striker Ollie Watkins, who has contributed 14 goals and 10 assists in 26 league appearances this season, can inspire the visitors to victory.

Over 1.5 first half goals @ 11/10

Luton's last four home matches have produced 12 first-half goals and another fast start looks likely when Villa visit Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters scored twice in the first three minutes of their 4-0 win over Brighton but they were 2-0 down at the break in last month's defeat to struggling Sheffield United.

All three goals in their 2-1 loss to Manchester United came in the first 14 minutes and Haaland completed his hat-trick in the 40th minute of Tuesday's cup tie before Jordan Clark struck for the Hatters just before half-time.

Over 1.5 first-half goals looks a good bet given that Villa have flown out of the traps in a couple of their recent fixtures.

They scored four times in the first half-hour against the Blades at Bramall Lane and led Forest 3-1 at half-time last weekend while Luton's 4-4 draw at Newcastle on 3rd February featured four goals in the first 40 minutes.

Leon Bailey to be first goalscorer @ 15/2

Villa striker Watkins is a worthy favourite in the First Goalscorer market but his teammate Leon Bailey appeals at a bigger price to open the scoring.

The Jamaica international has enjoyed a productive campaign, scoring eight goals and claiming seven assists in 1,264 minutes of Premier League playing time in 2023/24.

Bailey was on the scoresheet in last weekend's home win over Forest and he scored the only goal of the game with one of his five shots against champions Manchester City in December.

The speedy winger notched in Villa's victories over Burnley and Sheffield United and he may well add to his tally against another of the top flight's bottom three this weekend.
