Having finished last year on a poor run of form, Liverpool Women are hoping that 2025 will bring with it a fresh start as they begin the year with a home clash against Brighton Women.
The Reds are languishing in the lower echelons of the Women's Super League with just nine points from their 10 matches and they will be looking over their shoulder at the teams in the mix for relegation.
As for Brighton, they are enjoying a terrific campaign and are just four points off the top three after 10 games.
Despite their form, Liverpool should have good support behind them at St Helens Stadium and this could be an intriguing matchup.
Brighton Women draw no bet - 5/4
Liverpool's WSL form was seriously underwhelming at the end of 2024 with the Reds losing their last four matches of the year against Chelsea, Everton, Manchester United and Arsenal without scoring.
They did at least register convincing cup wins over Newcastle (6-1) and Everton (4-0) as part of that run but their dismal league form is a serious cause for concern.
Matt Beard's team are nine points worse off than they were at this stage last season and this could be a testing fixture to start the year.
Brighton have excelled in Dario Vidosic's first WSL campaign in charge, having recorded five wins in the top flight to put them within touching distance of a European berth.
They have no shortage of goalscorers with Kiko Seike, Fran Kirby and Nikita Parris scoring a combined 11 league goals and they are playing without fear right now.
The draw is a possibility given that two of Brighton's last four games have finished all square but if one side are going to win it, Brighton are better equipped so they are worth chancing in the draw-no-bet market.
Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals - 6/5
Backing a result in this game may not be the first instinct of some punters and goals could be another way to go with both teams to score and over 2.5 goals appealing at 6/5.
Only the top three of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal have scored more WSL goals than Brighton this season and outside of those sides, the Seagulls also rank first in average possession and passes made.
They are a progressive, attacking team and that has been reflected by their recent games with both teams to score and over 2.5 goals landing in three of Brighton's last five matches, so that could be an appropriate wager.
Nikita Parris to score at any time - 11/4
Brighton raised eyebrows with their capture of former Manchester United and Arsenal forward Nikita Paris last September and the former Lioness has impressed for the Seagulls.
Although not Brighton's leading scorer in this season's WSL - that title belongs to Seike with five strikes - Parris has scored three goals and laid on two assists in 10 league appearances.
With Kirby's availability for this contest uncertain, there may be added pressure on Parris to perform in the final third and she looks a great bet to score at any time, having bagged a brace in her team's recent 6-2 cup mauling of Bristol City.
