Liverpool v Sparta Prague: Predictions, Tips and Odds

Liverpool hold a four-goal advantage heading into to the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie with Sparta Prague and have plenty in hand to progress with ease.

Reds head coach Jurgen Klopp is likely to make changes for the return leg on Thursday with a major FA Cup showdown with Manchester United on the horizon, but it is unlikely to affect the outcome of this tie.

Liverpool v Sparta Prague betting tips and predictions

Liverpool & Under 3.5 Goals @ 13/8

Liverpool have all but put this Round of 16 tie to bed following their 5-1 romp in Prague, so expect Klopp to draft in plenty of reserves to get the job finished.

Klopp raised an eyebrow or two by sending out a strong team in the Czech capital last Thursday, just a few days before they took on Manchester City in a crunch Premier League showdown.

But the German’s gamble paid off meaning he can mothball a few of his big guns at Anfield ahead of their next major test - Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford - knowing their immediate European future is all but secured.

It would be no surprise to see the likes of Adrian, James McConnell, Bobby Clark and Jayden Danns getting starts and, with that in mind, it may not pay to presume another Liverpool romp.

Sparta have little tangible to play for and their focus is more likely on Sunday’s game against Hradec Kralove, a match they will need to win to maintain their slender edge at the top of the Czech First League over bitter rivals Slavia.

They know this task is beyond them, especially given their record away from home in Europe this season in which they have lost four - at Dinamo Zagreb, Betis, Rangers and Galatasaray - and drawn one of six away fixtures.

They were also thumped 4-0 at Viktoria Plzen at the weekend, adding weight to the argument they can be frail in big away games.

Liverpool, in contrast, have played three home group-stage games and won the lot by an aggregate scoreline of 11-1.

Sparta looked lively at home with front three Jan Kuchta, Veljko Birmancevic and Lukas Haraslin all having chances.

But their dreadful away record speaks for itself and domestic concerns have now become paramount.

Klopp would like an incident-free, routine evening and can expect his reshuffled side to win without any great fanfare.

Over 6.5 Liverpool Corners @ 1/1

Liverpool were efficiency itself at the Stadion Letna with the tie all but over by half-time thanks to the Reds carving out a 3-0 lead courtesy of goals from Alexis Mac Allister and a Darwin Nunez double.

Then it was a case of simply repelling Sparta as best they could and the result is there for all to see - a job well done!

A subdued night at Anfield should ensure something equally routine which may well be evidenced in the final goals tally, but not necessarily the corner count.

It came in at eight in Prague - five for Sparta, three for Liverpool - but it’s worth chancing that the Reds go on a corner spree at home.

Clearly they are under no pressure to pile forward and rack up the goals and corners, but it’s just in their nature and there will be a lot of youngsters desperate to impress.

That was the case when a really young Liverpool side took on Southampton in the last round of the FA Cup, a 3-0 win which produced 15 corners in total. Liverpool had seven of them.

Liverpool had 63 per cent of the ball in Prague and will up that number on Merseyside. They average over eight corners a game at home in the Premier League so expect them to get near to that mark or better it.

Both Teams To Receive A Card - No @ 6/4

There was plenty on the line in the first leg of this tie, but it was a well-ordered affair which only yielded two yellow cards, both to Sparta players.

Fast forward a week and there is very little on the line and certainly no inclination for any Liverpool players to transgress and risk suspensions further into the tournament.

Expect a low-key affair where there is definitely a bit of value in both teams not receiving a card at 6/4.
