Fulham v Liverpool Predictions

Draw – 3/1

Liverpool are fighting on four fronts for silverware this season and the Reds have one foot in the EFL Cup final following their 2-1 win over Fulham in the first leg of this semi-final at Anfield two weeks ago.

The Premier League leaders need to avoid defeat at Craven Cottage on Wednesday to book their place in next month's final at Wembley.

The Reds arrive in west London in great form and have won their last five matches in all competitions. Jurgen Klopp's men haven't lost a domestic fixture since September but there have been a couple of scares along the way from this week's opponents.

Fulham pushed Liverpool all the way in a 4-3 Premier League defeat on Merseyside at the start of December, while they also took the lead in the opening instalment of this contest a fortnight ago.

So the Cottagers won't overly fear this semi-final decider with Klopp's mob and recent history suggests they can at least avoid defeat back on home soil. Liverpool haven't won at this venue for almost five years and their two visits since then have yielded draws in which both teams scored.

It's never been an easy place for the Reds to visit and a hostile welcome is likely this week as the home side looks to turn the tie back in their favour. The odds are against them, though, and so are the stats.

Only 25% of teams have overturned a semi-final first-leg deficit to reach the final in this competition and from the nine previous campaigns in which Liverpool have won the first leg of an EFL Cup semi-final, the Reds have advanced to the final in eight of them.

But Fulham have beaten Arsenal, West Ham and Wolves on home soil this season, while also drawing with Tottenham, so backing Marco Silva's men to at least avoid a defeat this week looks like a decent bet in this intriguing encounter.

Fulham to score the first goal – 13/8

Fulham opened the scoring through Willian in the first leg at Anfield and they had four shots on target over the course of the 90 minutes, so they look to have a great chance of drawing first blood in the decider at Craven Cottage this week.

The Cottagers have scored in nine of their 13 home matches in all competitions this season and they will be determined to start this contest on the front foot, just as they did on Merseyside 14 days ago.

Silva's side are the only team to score against Liverpool in the Reds' last five outings, which were all wins, and they have scored four goals in their last two games against the nine-time EFL Cup winners.

Fulham have scored the opening goal in five of Liverpool's last six visits to the Cottage and they look a decent price to bag the opening goal again this week, particularly as Klopp is likely to rotate his side for this fixture.

Joao Palhinha to be booked – 7/4

Joao Palhinha will be in the thick of the action for Fulham and the combative central midfielder looks a decent price to be booked this week.

The Portuguese is no stranger to a yellow card, he has picked up 10 in 25 appearances this season, and he could fall foul of the officials once again this week.

His role will be to disrupt the flow of Liverpool's play and that is likely to see him overstep the mark at Craven Cottage.

Fulham Team News

Fulham appear to have a clean bill of health as Adama Traore could be available following a hamstring issue.

Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Fode Ballo-Toure are unavailable as they are away on international duty.

Liverpool Team News

Curtis Jones may not be risked after complaining of a tight hamstring following Sunday's win at Bournemouth.

Andy Robertson and Dominic Szoboszlai could feature but Thiago, Stefan Bajcetic, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Doak, Kostas Tsimikas and Joel Matip are all ruled out.

Mohamed Salah is back in England to start his recovery from an injury picked up at the Africa Cup of Nations and Wataru Endo is away with Japan at the Asian Cup.

Fulham v Liverpool Stats

Fulham have scored in nine of 13 home matches in all competitions this season.

Liverpool are unbeaten in domestic competition since 30th September.
