Liverpool v Brighton: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Liverpool know a win over Brighton on Sunday will move them back to the top of the Premier League, at least for a couple of hours, ahead of the Manchester City v Arsenal showdown.

However, the Reds have had their problems against the Seagulls in recent times and there are normally goals when these two teams meet.

Liverpool’s need is greater this time around and that is likely to be significant when the teams go head-to-head in the 14:00 kick-off.

Handicap Result: Liverpool -1 - 10/11

Since their 3-1 defeat at Arsenal, Liverpool are unbeaten in their last five Premier League games, with four wins and a draw.

You have to go back to October 2022 for the last time the Reds lost a league game on home soil – a run of 26 matches – with Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City being the only teams to avoid defeat at Anfield this season.

No visiting team has a better recent record at Anfield than Brighton though, with the Seagulls having collected two draws and a victory from their last three meetings on Merseyside.

But Roberto De Zerbi’s men make the journey north off the back of some poor away performances in recent months. Brighton have lost five of their last six on the road in all competitions and have failed to score in four of those six away games.

There have been three or more goals in five of the last six meetings between the teams, including a 2-2 draw at the Amex Stadium back in October.

This fixture finished in a 3-3 draw last season, with the since departed pair of Leandro Trossard and Roberto Firmino scoring five of the six goals.

Home Team Highest Scoring Half – 2nd Half - 21/20

A lot has been made of the number of late goals Liverpool have scored this season, but the second half in general has been lucrative for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The Reds have scored 13 goals in their last five Premier League games, with 11 of those coming after the half-time break.

Klopp’s squad are currently the second-highest scorers in the division, with 65 strikes bagged in 28 league games – an average of 2.32 per game.

It’s also worth noting that 43 of those 65 league goals have been scored in the second half of matches and two of their three goals in this fixture last term found the net after half-time.

Mohamed Salah to score first - 10/3

After almost a couple of months on the sidelines, Mohamed Salah has returned to the fray in the last four games but hasn’t looked to be at his usual high level.

Despite that, the Egyptian star has grabbed goals in the Europa League home win over Sparta Prague and the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.

Salah didn’t feature in his country’s recent international friendly double-header and that will have enabled him to sharpen his fitness back at his club.

The 31-year-old, who has 15 league goals to his name this season, scored both goals in the draw at the Amex Stadium in the reverse fixture.

Salah has a 61% shot accuracy in his 22 league appearances, with 11 of his Premier League goals coming in front of his home fans.
