Liverpool v Bologna: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Liverpool should follow up their victory at AC Milan by seeing off Bologna at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League.

Arne Slot's side came from 1-0 down early on to win 3-1 at the Stadio San Siro on Matchday One and they can make it six points from six with a comfortable victory over Italians Bologna, who are UEFA Champions League debutants this season.

The Reds won 2-1 at Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday to go top of the table, while Bologna are 13th in Serie A after holding Atalanta to a 1-1 draw at home over the weekend.

This is the first time the two teams have met in a competitive fixture and will only be Bologna's third game against an English club after they played Fulham home and away in the 2002 UEFA Intertoto Cup, losing 5-3 on aggregate.

Liverpool v Bologna betting tips and predictions

Liverpool - Highest scoring half - First Half - 2/1

The Reds should maintain their excellent form under their new manager with another victory at Anfield.

Liverpool should assume control early on against their Italian opponents and they may well have victory wrapped up by half-time.

There have been several strong first-half performances from Slot's team already this season to suggest they may fly out of the blocks on Wednesday.

Liverpool were 2-0 up at half-time at Manchester United, when they eventually won 3-0, while they scored all three goals in the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth in a devastating first-half display.

In their UEFA Champions League opener at Milan last month, they also scored more goals in the first half, despite falling behind very early on.

Centre-backs Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk both headed home before the break to cancel out Christian Pulisic's goal to leave the score 2-1 to the visitors at the interval.

Starting well against Bologna seems likely and it would give Slot the chance to make some early second-half substitutions as he looks to give some of his first-team regulars a rest.

Cody Gakpo to score anytime - 6/4

Cody Gakpo will hope for another UEFA Champions League start on Wednesday after impressing when named in the XI against Milan last month.

The Dutch forward provided the assist for Dominik Szoboszlai's second-half goal which sealed the victory in Italy and he will be eager to take his chance again with competition for places among the forwards high at Anfield.

Luis Diaz's fine early-season form means Gakpo has had to watch on from the sidelines at times, but he has caught the eye when coming on and also starred when given a starting role last week against West Ham in the EFL Cup.

Gakpo likes to try his luck when cutting in from the left and scored twice against the Hammers late on to take his goal tally for the club to a respectable 25 from 87 appearances.

Stefan Posch to be booked - 13/5

The Bologna defence could be in for a difficult evening as Liverpool are expected to dominate proceedings at Anfield.

Stefan Posch is likely to start at right-back and he will be up against either Gakpo or Diaz, who are both in good early season form and like to run at their direct opponent.

Posch has given away a squad-high total of 12 fouls for Bologna in Serie A this season and he was booked after just two minutes in Bologna's goalless draw with Shakhtar Donetsk on Matchday One.

Another card could well be heading his way as he struggles to get to grips with Liverpool's pacey forward line.
