Lincoln Red Imps meet Larne in the play-off round of UEFA Conference League qualifying and making the group phase of the competition would be a big deal for both sides.
Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps made the group stage in 2021/22 and will be hoping to repeat the trick, while Northern Irish outfit Larne are bidding to break new ground by reaching that phase for the first time in their history.
Lincoln Red Imps lost 3-2 on aggregate to Dinamo Minsk of Belarus in the third round of UEFA Europa League qualifying, whereas Larne edged past Kosovo’s FC Ballkani on penalties in the previous round of the UEFA Conference League.
Lincoln Red Imps v Larne is currently not being broadcast on live TV, although that is subject to change.
Lincoln Red Imps v Larne has a 20:00 (BST) start time on Thursday 22nd August and is being played at the Estadio Do Algarve in Almancil, Portugal.
That is because the Red Imps’ home ground, which they share with other teams in the Gibraltar Premier Division, failed to meet UEFA guidelines.
This is a first competitive meeting between Lincoln Red Imps and Larne and neither have yet got their domestic season under way.
Lincoln Red Imps have lost their last 10 matches in the UEFA Conference League, scoring only three goals in that period.
The Gibraltan side have played seven European qualifiers this season and both teams have scored in only two of those outings, with under 2.5 goals also prevailing on five occasions.
Larne, meanwhile, have played four European qualifiers so far this term, with one or both teams failing to score on each occasion.
Five of Larne’s last seven matches in the UEFA Conference League have featured one goal or fewer so, given the stakes, defences may come to the fore.

He may be partnered by former Northampton forward Cian Bolger, although Mark Randall and Paul O’Neill will be pushing for starts.
