Leicester v Southampton: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Southampton's hopes of winning automatic promotion to the Premier League suffered a major blow with their defeat at Cardiff on Saturday but the Saints are capable of giving Leicester a thorough test at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night.

Draw or Southampton double chance - 7/10

Southampton had been building up a head of steam in their promotion challenge with three successive home wins to close in on the Championship's established top three, but their bid came off the rails with a defeat at Cardiff on Saturday.

The result was harsh on the Saints, who had dominated the game and led for almost an hour, but they were punished for not making the most of their chances when a deflected shot in added time condemned them to a costly 2-1 loss.

There is no more room for error for the south-coast squad and they received a further blow when key midfielder Stuart Armstrong was ruled out for the rest of the domestic season with a thigh injury.

However, at the odds on offer, the Saints have a solid chance of disrupting the promotion plans of their hosts, who have dropped points against less talented teams in recent weeks.

Leicester have lost three of their last six matches, all by 1-0 scorelines to Bristol City, Millwall and Plymouth, who are all significantly below Southampton in the table.

While the Foxes are edging towards their promotion goal they are not doing it in style and they have won only four of their last 13 games in all competitions.

Saturday's 2-1 win over West Brom was huge for Enzo Maresca's team but Albion gave them a real battle and had 18 shots to Leicester's 11.

Leicester's 4-1 win over Southampton came during City's sensational start to the season, when they won 15 of their first 17 games, but their form has cooled off in recent weeks and this should be a much closer battle with Saints capable of claiming at least a point.

Over 3.5 goals - 6/5

There have been at least four goals in three of the last four meetings between these teams and this has the potential to be a back-and-forth battle.

Leicester have conceded at least one goal in their last eight matches while both teams have scored with over 2.5 goals in their last five home games.

There have been at least three goals in 12 of Southampton's last 15 fixtures, a run that includes games that produced eight, seven and six goals plus a pair of 3-2 matches.

With the Saints keeping just two clean sheets in their last 12 games in all competitions and both these teams having already passed the 80-goal mark for the season, the potential is there for an end-to-end contest featuring four or more goals.

Che Adams anytime goalscorer - 2/1

Southampton have two of the top five scorers in the Championship and while Adam Armstrong has been their key player this season with 20 goals and 13 assists, he has not scored in any of his last five starts after netting in four successive games in March and early April.

His team-mate Che Adams has done a great job of picking up the slack, though. Adams is fifth in the Championship goal charts with 16 goals and his goals per 90 minutes figure of 0.68 is superior to Armstrong's mark of 0.50.

The Scotland international has scored five goals in six appearances during April, including a double in the recent 3-0 win over Preston, and he was also on target in the wild 3-2 defeat at Ipswich on Easter Monday, showing he can perform in big games on the road.

Adams has a special incentive to impress as he was born in Leicester and he looks a decent price at 2/1 to get on the scoresheet at the King Power Stadium.
