Leicester City v Brighton: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Leicester City hope to build on their 3-1 win over West Ham in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge, but Brighton are likely to be hungry after suffering a 3-1 loss at Fulham on Thursday

Ruud van Nistelrooy got off to a great start as Leicester City boss as his team secured a 3-1 victory over West Ham on Tuesday, but he still has a great deal of work to do to drag the Foxes up the Premier League table.

Sunday’s opponents Brighton, who were fifth in the standings going into the weekend, are looking to recover from a 3-1 loss at Fulham, but they have the attacking talent to threaten a Leicester defence that still looks shaky, and that could be a recipe for plenty of goals at the King Power Stadium.

Over 3.5 total goals - 6/4

There were joyous scenes at the King Power on Tuesday as Leicester City opened the Van Nistelrooy era with a 3-1 win over West Ham, but the scoreline probably did not reflect the way the game went.

City had taken just one point from their previous five games so the relief was understandable, but the Foxes conceded an expected-goals figure or 3.0, which was the second highest an opposing team had posted against them this season.

So despite the euphoria that greeted the final whistle, there is plainly a lot for their new Dutch coach to address and bottom two Wolves and Southampton were the only teams to have conceded more goals in their opening 14 games.

That should give Sunday’s visitors Brighton plenty of encouragement as they look to register their seventh victory of the season, and also be good news for those hoping to see a few goals.

The Seagulls fell to their third defeat of the campaign at Fulham on Thursday after gifting their hosts an early lead and the 3-1 victory may be a little flattering for the Londoners, who benefited from an own goal and a late strike to get over the line.

Brighton had won at Bournemouth in their previous away game and have also posted successes at Everton and Newcastle.

Only Liverpool and Chelsea have scored more goals on the road than Fabian Hurzeler’s team this year and they have found the net in each of their matches on their travels, so with their hosts looking to impress their new manager, there looks a strong chance this could be a goal-filled encounter.

Jamie Vardy to score at any time - 11/4

Veteran Leicester striker Jamie Vardy is still causing plenty of problems, as he demonstrated on Tuesday when he gave his side an early lead following a perfectly timed run that gave him acres of space behind the West Ham defence.

The former England striker has five goals to his name this season and started 13 games this season, so he looks set to start and should be fresh after his three goal attempts in 60 minutes of action against the Hammers.

He looks capable of adding to his tally against a team who have kept just two clean sheets in their last 10 away league games.

Wilfried Ndidi to be booked - 3/1

Leicester’s Wilfried Ndidi is just one booking away from a suspension and this could be the match where the Nigeria midfielder earns a week off.

He has committed a total of seven fouls in his last three league outings - he has a total of 25 this season - and can be expected to be in the what of the battle.
