Leeds United v Luton Town: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Leeds United will be looking to continue their impressive run of form when they welcome Luton Town to Elland Road for Championship action on Wednesday evening.

The Whites sit top of the table on goal difference heading into the midweek fixtures and they will feel confident of overcoming the Hatters, who have struggled for consistency since dropping down from the Premier League and who are looking over their shoulders rather than up the standings.

The last meeting between these two sides ended 1-1 at Elland Road back in June 2020, a result that extended Leeds' unbeaten streak against Town to six matches.

Leeds United to win and both teams to score - 12/5

Leeds have responded well to last season's play-off final disappointment and find themselves at the summit of the Championship, having overtaken previous leaders Sunderland last weekend.

Daniel Farke's side have lost just one of their last 11 matches, winning seven and drawing the other three, while they have won five successive games at Elland Road and kept four clean sheets in the process.

The Whites are the second-highest scorers in the division, netting 28 times, while no side has found the back of the net more times at home (17) than the West Yorkshire outfit.

It will be a tough ask for Luton to come away with a positive result, but they have started to climb the table with two wins from their last three fixtures and they will be no easy pushovers.

The Hatters have scored in five of their last six away assignments in all competitions, the only blank during that period coming at Sheffield United, but Rob Edwards' troops have struggled to pick up results on their travels.

Luton have collected just four points on the road, just three teams have a worse return, and they last tasted success at Elland Road back in September 1957.

Both teams have scored in two of the last three meetings between the pair and although Leeds have been defensively strong at home, the Hatters look to have enough about them to get on the scoresheet in defeat.

Joel Piroe anytime goalscorer - 13/8

Leeds have shared the goals around this season, with 10 different players scoring in the Championship, and top of the pile for the table-toppers is Joel Piroe with six strikes to his name.

Four of the 25-year-old's goals have come at Elland Road and he has a habit of turning it on in front of a raucous home crowd, who will be expecting another victory.

Going up against a Luton defence that has conceded 13 goals in their last four away matches, Piroe will fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet for the seventh time this term.

He has scored in his last two home outings - victories against Plymouth (3-0) and QPR (2-0) - and the Dutchman looks good value to keep that impressive run in front of goal going.

Cauley Woodrow to have over 0.5 shots on target - 11/8

Luton have plenty of attacking options at their disposal and one of those is Cauley Woodrow, who has been with the club since making the switch from Barnsley in 2022.

The 29-year-old has had limited playing time this season, making just one league start, so it is perhaps no surprise that he is yet to open his account.

But the game that Woodrow did start, the 5-1 defeat at Middlesbrough earlier this month, he managed to register two shots on target and there is every chance he can test the goalkeeper at least once on Wednesday.

Edwards could be tempted into tweaking his XI for this clash given the quick turnaround from Saturday's 1-0 home win over Hull, and Woodrow will be hoping to get a chance to impress after being an unused substitute against the Tigers.
