Leeds United v Harrogate Town: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Leeds United are top of the Championship, and even if manager Daniel Farke elects to shuffle the pack, it seems likely they will have far too much for Harrogate Town, who they entertain at Elland Road in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Leeds United v Harrogate Town betting tips and predictions

Second half to be Leeds United’s highest scoring - 20/21

Leeds United are desperate to get back into the Premier League after coming desperately close to automatic promotion last season, so an FA Cup third-round clash against Harrogate Town will not be considered a priority at Elland Road.

However, the strength of their home record suggests that a defeat is highly unlikely and they can ensure there is no shock in this all-Yorkshire clash.

Their New Year’s Day draw with Blackburn, when they were pegged back by a late equaliser, ended a run of nine straight home wins for the Whites and the fact they conceded just two goals during that run shows just what a huge task Harrogate have on their hands.

The Sulphurites won 2-0 at fellow League Two strugglers Barrow on Saturday which ended a run of just one point from seven games, which was just their second victory in 12 away games.

They did cause a surprise by beating Wrexham in the first round, but it is difficult to see them getting anything here and the best action from a betting perspective is to back Leeds to score more goals in the second half than the first.

That has happened in seven of their 13 home league games this season and six of their last eight home goals have come after the break and there is a decent chance that Harrogate will hold firm early on but find the going tougher in the later stages.

Brenden Aaronson to score at any time - 13/10

It could be that Farke elects to rest some of his regulars as a return to the top flight is the overwhelming priority for Leeds after they lost in last year’s Championship playoff final after they earned 90 points from their 46 games.

However, one player who catches the eye in the anytime-goalscorer betting is American midfielder Brenden Aaronson, who could gain some space in advanced areas just in front of the Harrogate defence.

He could exploit that and has demonstrated that he is not afraid to have a shot at goal as no United player has eclipsed his tally of 54 efforts this season.

Aaronson has had a shot on target in six of his last nine appearances - he has six league goals this term - and there could be plenty of chances against the League Two strugglers.

He has tried his luck 18 times in his last seven matches and the opportunities could be there for him to get on the scoresheet once again.

Over 8.5 Leeds United corners - 1/1

Leeds are the only team in the Championship to average more than seven corners per match and that average goes up to a whopping 8.31 from 7.12 when Farke’s charges are in action at their Elland Road base.

The likely one-sided nature of this affair suggests the Whites should be able to rack up a big number of flag-kicks on Saturday and there could be at least nine for the home side.

United have at least seven in all but one of their 13 home league games this season and at least eight in eight of their encounters on their own patch, so expect the overs in the two-way corner bet to be a winning selection.
