After a slow start to the season, Championship title favourites Leeds United have found their feet and they will be looking to make it three wins on the spin at home to promotion rivals Burnley.
Leeds shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller with Portsmouth in their Championship curtain-raiser before being frustrated in a goalless draw away at West Brom.
However, Daniel Farke’s side have responded well with 2-0 wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City and they are bidding to continue where they left off before the international break against Burnley.
The Clarets are attempting to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking and they hit the ground running, brushing aside Luton Town 4-1 in their opener before a 5-0 rout at home to Cardiff City.
But a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland before a 1-1 draw with Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers have dented their confidence levels somewhat and this will be an almighty test of their promotion credentials at Elland Road.
Leeds United to win to nil - 2/1
Since that thrilling 3-3 draw with Portsmouth on the opening weekend of the season, Leeds have tightened things up defensively by keeping three straight Championship clean sheets.
The home defence may face a tougher test against Burnley’s forwards than they did against West Brom, Sheffield Wednesday or Hull, but they can overcome the challenge with another win to nil.
The Clarets had scored nine goals in their opening two games against Luton and Cardiff but they were then frustrated in a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland, where they managed four shots and hit the target only once.
Even in their latest 1-1 draw with Blackburn, Burnley forced only three shots on target despite having 73 per cent possession at home.
There is no doubt that Burnley will get stronger once their lengthy injury list diminishes and this looks a daunting prospect against a Leeds side that are notoriously strong at home.
Farke's side had the second-best home record in last season's Championship, winning 16 of their 23 games, and they conceded only 16 times along the way.
Seven of their final 11 home wins last season, which included against promoted Ipswich, saw them keep a clean sheet and that defensive discipline should serve them well against Burnley.
The Clarets had the third-worst away figures in the Premier League in 2023/24 and they have plenty to prove after that limp defeat at Sunderland prior to the international break.
Farke finally appears to have adapted well to losing Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray this summer and they can make the most of home advantage in a low-scoring victory.
Brenden Aaronson anytime goalscorer - 7/2
Brenden Aaronson appears to have worked his way into Farke’s plans and the American international could be a value selection to get onto the scoresheet against Burnley.
Attacking midfielder Aaronson was on target from the substitute’s bench in a 3-3 draw with Portsmouth and Leeds supporters will perhaps feel he could have also grabbed a late winner in that contest.
The 23-year-old was given a starting berth in the 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday two outings ago and it took him only 24 minutes to grasp the opportunity with the opening goal.
Farke rewarded him with a full 90 minutes against Hull on the back of that display and, having since started in the USA’s two friendlies with Canada and New Zealand, he should again be given the nod against Burnley.
Aaronson is a confidence player and this is a level he may prove too good for in time, so quotes of 7/2 about him taking his league tally this season to three may be overpriced.
Ethan Ampadu to be shown a card - 3/1
Having played large parts of last season in the heart of Leeds’ defence, Ethan Ampadu has been restored to his defensive midfield position and he looks a likely card candidate at Elland Road.
The Wales international was booked 12 times in 63 appearances for club and country last season and he has already been cautioned during this Championship campaign - that came in the 2-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.
Ampadu was booked for Wales in a 2-1 Nations League victory at Montenegro last time out and his role comes with the pressure of regaining possession, which means he is renowned for committing a couple of fouls in crunch matches such as this.
