Leeds v Leicester: Tips, predictions & odds

Championship promotion chasers Leeds are on an eight-game winning streak and they will be looking to close the nine-point gap to leaders Leicester, who suffered a shock 2-1 loss at home to Middlesbrough last Saturday.

Leeds v Leicester Predictions

Leeds to win – Evs

Leeds are the proud holders of the only unbeaten home record in the EFL (12 wins, four draws and no defeats) and they can maintain it by defeating Leicester at Elland Road.

It was a turbulent summer for Leeds, who were slow off the mark with their pre-season planning and there was an impact on early results with only one victory registered among the opening five league games.

However, the Yorkshire giants had recruited intelligently by the end of the transfer window and they seem to have improved with every passing month.

Daniel Farke’s side have reeled off eight straight league wins in 2024 and the last five of those successes have been accompanied by clean sheets.

Improvement at the back has been key for a side which has lots of quality in attacking areas.

Crysencio Summerville tops the Leeds scoring charts with 15 league goals but Joel Piroe and Dan James are into double figures (11 and 10 respectively) and Wilfred Gnonto has hit form over the last few weeks, bagging a brace in the 4-0 success at home to Rotherham and the opener in last Saturday’s 2-0 success at Plymouth.

Leicester face a massive challenge in their efforts to quell the Leeds front line and they were far from watertight last weekend when losing 2-1 at home to Middlesbrough.

The Foxes have led the division since September and can be extremely satisfied with a points total of 78 from 33 games.

Beating Reading’s 106-point haul from the 2005-06 campaign remains a possibility, but Leicester must also guard against a downturn which could threaten their automatic promotion hopes.

Their March schedule includes tricky trips to Sunderland and Hull and a vital home clash against Southampton.

Right now the Foxes look in a reasonably comfortable position with nine points separating them from third-placed Ipswich.

However, the landscape can change quickly in the Championship and a second successive loss would have Enzo Maresca’s side looking nervously over their shoulder.

To this point Leicester has passed the majority of challenges with flying colours.

Nonetheless, they were largely outplayed when losing 1-0 at home to Leeds in early November and could suffer another major setback on Saturday.

Crysenscio Summerville to score anytime – 11/5

Leeds have some fantastic attacking players but Dutch under-21 international Crysencio Summerville has been the pick of the bunch and he looks a tempting 11/5 wager to score against Leicester.

Summerville showed flashes of his potential in the Premier League last season and his game has developed at a rapid rate over the last six months.

The 22-year-old possesses pace and skill in abundance and is showing a more clinical touch in the moments that matter.

Summerville is third on the list of Championship goal involvements with 23 (15 goals and eight assists).

He has netted four times in the last four matches and could have a big say in helping his side to register a ninth straight league win.

Harry Winks to be carded – 12/5

Given the pace among the Leeds forwards it will be vital for Leicester to break up attacks as the earliest possible opportunity.

The midfield area will be a key battleground but the Foxes must operate without key man Wilfred Ndidi, who has been absent since late December with a muscle strain.

Harry Winks and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall will be required to perform a lot of the destructive duties and the former looks the more likely to make a mistimed challenge.

The ex-Spurs man is known for his creative instincts but he has been cautioned eight times this season and looks an overpriced 12/5 shot to be carded at Elland Road.

Dewsbury-Hall has been booked five times and only one of those occasions has been in 2024.
