Lazio v Juventus: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Lazio’s change of coach should shape the outcome of Saturday’s clash against Juventus - the first part of a crucial double-header for two clubs that have suffered in the second half of the Serie A season so far.

I Biancoceleste turned to Igor Tudor after a four-game losing sequence that saw Maurizio Sarri call time on his reign in Rome.

A Coppa Italia semi-final in Turin next week will be Lazio’s last chance to salvage some pride from a disappointing campaign and it could also be Juventus’ best hope of finishing the season on a high.

Title contenders until their 1-0 loss at Inter Milan last month, the Bianconeri have had to reset their goals for the season after suffering a lingering hangover from that defeat.

Lazio v Juventus betting tips and predictions

Draw - 21/10

Tudor’s arrival should bring some fresh impetus to a squad that looked listless during the final weeks of Sarri’s reign.

The classic combination of not scoring enough goals and conceding too many meant a change was needed to revitalise the club.

Sarri had been unable to rediscover the spark in attack that had led Lazio to a second-placed Serie A finish last term.

Lazio have scored just 36 goals in 29 league games this season - compared to 60 in 38 last term.

Tudor’s reputation as an attack-minded coach should help, but he may need to drop club legend Ciro Immobile and put his faith in back-up Taty Castellanos.

In 33 games in all competitions, Immobile has scored just 10 goals and five of those were penalties.

The Croatian coach is set to scrap the 4-3-3 system favoured by Sarri and switch to his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.

It helped him lead Hellas Verona to a top-half finish two seasons ago and the unfashionable club achieved a memorable 2-1 win over Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus in that campaign.

Allegri will hope the international break has given his players a chance to recover from the disappointment of letting their Scudetto chance slip by.

But he will still be without two of his main strikers – Dusan Vlahovic and Arkadiusz Milik – for this trip to Rome.

Both coaches know the two-legged Coppa Italia semi-final carries a bit more weight than this contest and it would be no surprise to see the sides cancel each other out to some extent and the game end in a draw.

Both Teams to Score - 1/1

Sarri’s assistant Giovanni Martusciello took temporary charge for the trip to Frosinone earlier this month, letting the brakes off a little as Lazio triumphed 3-2 at Stadio Stirpe.

And Tudor’s reputation as an attack-minded coach suggests Lazio could be involved in a few more games like that now.

Hellas Verona were among the leading scorers in Serie A during his spell there, while their games saw an average of 3.26 goals per game and 74% of their home games saw both teams notch.

Tudor took charge of Marseille last season and they also had the highest ratio of home games with both teams scoring in France’s top-flight - 79%.

Juventus and Lazio are both under 50% for that statistic this season, but things could change dramatically now Tudor has taken the reins.

Luis Alberto to score anytime - 11/2

One player who will probably see his role change in Tudor’s system is Spanish midfielder Luis Alberto.

The former Liverpool starlet has been at Lazio since 2016 and flourished as an attacking foil in his early days, scoring 12 goals and assisting 18 in all competitions during his second season.

Sarri has used him as a deeper-lying midfielder in recent years and that has affected his productivity at the top end of the pitch - but there have been glimpses of what he can do on the rare occasions when he has been given license to attack.

In the last two seasons, Alberto has played 73 games as a central midfielder and just four as an attacking midfielder.

But he has scored twice in the four games when he has been pushed forward and only nine times in the other 73 games.

Reports suggest he will operate as one of the support strikers behind a centre forward in Tudor’s 3-4-2-1 system, which points to there being some value in his anytime goalscorer odds this weekend.
