Kevin De Bruyne unsure of FIFA Club World Cup participation

Kevin De Bruyne has stated he is unsure whether or not he will play in the FIFA Club World Cup for Manchester City this summer following the news the Belgian's contract will not be extended at the Etihad.

De Bruyne's contract with Man City is scheduled to run out on 30th June, with the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States scheduled to begin on 14th June.

Speaking to TNT Sport Brazil about his potential involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup following Man City's 1-0 win over Wolves in the Premier League, De Bruyne said:

I don't know. For me, it will depend on whatever happens in the future, you know, depending on what team I'll go, what competition I'll play.

33-year-old De Bruyne, who has spent a decade at Man City, has previously outlined his shock at not being offered a new contract by the club.

The Belgium international is believed to have suitors all over the world and the ex-Chelsea man seems open to all opportunities, even refusing to rule out a move to another Premier League club.

As he assesses which step to take next in his glittering career, De Bruyne remains in the dark regarding City's plans for him at the FIFA Club World Cup.

"I haven't really spoken to City about it, so I don't know," De Bruyne said.

"If they want to have a conversation, we can. But I'm not sure about this."

Should Pep Guardiola's City make it out of the group stages of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup, De Bruyne's contract with the club will expire during the tournament.

The creative midfielder has won the FIFA Club World Cup with City once before, with Guardiola's charges overcoming Fluminense in the final in 2023.

City will be joined by Chelsea as the two English representatives in the 2025 edition of the tournament.
