Juventus v Inter Milan predictions

Under 2.5 goals - 7/10

This represents a massive opportunity for one of Juventus or Inter to land an early blow in the Serie A title race and that pressure could contribute to a game starved of goalscoring chances.

Both sides return after the international break in imperious form with Juve unbeaten in seven, having won six of those games, while Inter are on a four-game winning streak.

The current cushion at the top for Inter is two points but they will be well aware that the Old Lady are getting stronger with every outing, so a draw may suit them well.

Juventus have been tough to budge at their Turin fortress, where they have dropped only two points in six games and have looked assured defensively.

Massimiliano Allegri’s troops have conceded only seven goals in 12 league games this season, keeping six clean sheets and recording five consecutive wins.

Visitors Inter are the only side who boast a better defensive record in the Italian top-flight this season. The Nerazzurri have conceded only six times in 12 outings and they have recorded eight shutouts.

Inter do boast a perfect record on their travels, having won all five away games and conceded only once. Simone Inzaghi will have his troops well-organised and that is another factor for opting for a low-scoring encounter.

Seven of the last eight meetings between these Italian giants have featured two or fewer goals while only four of Juve’s 12 league matches have gone over 2.5 goals.

Given what is at stake and the defensive robustness of both teams on show, this may be more tactical than free-flowing.

Over 2.5 Juventus cards - 4/5

Only Lecce have picked up more bookings than Juventus this season and the attacking talent of Inter, which includes Lautaro Martinez, Hakan Calhanoglu and Marcus Thuram, is going to put them under plenty of pressure.

The Old Lady have collected 33 bookings in 12 games and they have picked up at least three cards in each of their last four league outings.

With this being a title showdown and Inter likely to have the better of the possession and chances, the 4/5 about Juve collecting at least three more cards makes plenty of appeal.

Juventus to win 1-0 - 17/2

Juve’s best chance of winning is to stay tight and keep this low-scoring, so those looking to back the hosts should take a chance on them prevailing narrowly 1-0.

These are Italy’s best two defences by some distance and, interestingly, three of the last six meetings between the pair have been settled by only one goal.

That scenario looks likely again based on this season’s evidence and Allegri’s side, who have won five straight home league games - two of which finished 1-0 - could edge it.

Juventus team news

With Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli both suspended and regular starter Manuel Locatelli struggling with a rib injury, Allegri may have some tough decisions to make in midfield.

Adrien Rabiot has returned from a one-match ban, though, so is a ready-made replacement in the engine room..

The Old Lady are also without defenders Mattia De Sciglio and Danilo while American international Tim Weah is another sidelined through injury.

Inter team news

Inter are also without a pair of first-choice defenders with Benjamin Pavard and Alessandro Bastoni having both been ruled out.

Former Juve winger Juan Cuadrado is a doubt to face his former club with an Achilles injury.
