Following on from Jurgen Klopp was never meant to be an easy task, but Arne Slot has managed the pressures of being a Liverpool manager effortlessly, guiding the Reds to their 20th league title.
On 26th January 2024, Jurgen Klopp announced that he was set to leave the Reds at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, following nine seasons at the club.
While not one figure is irreplaceable at a football club, for Liverpool fans, it felt as if the German was as close as you could get.
Nonetheless, Klopp bowed out and the Reds began the search for a new manager. While names like Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim were mooted, Feyenoord boss Arne Slot was hired after extensive research from CEO Michael Edwards and Sporting Director Richard Hughes.
The appointment of Slot was met with some scepticism, primarily from rival supporters who sensed a downward spiral coming the way of Liverpool.
Liverpool’s transition from manager to manager was executed seamlessly, as the Dutchman’s Reds cruised their way to a 20th league title, in front of the home fans following a 5-1 victory over Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham.
In a press conference carried out before Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Premier League, Slot revealed that Jurgen Klopp had contacted him following the confirmation of Liverpool’s Premier League glory.
The Dutchman said:
What did he have to say? ‘Congratulations, now you know how special a club it is, now you’re part of the history as well,’ these kind of things.
“He was really happy for me, for the players for the staff, for the fans, like we all know with Jurgen.”
There has been suggestions that Klopp may join Liverpool’s celebrations as the season comes to a close, reportedly set to attend Liverpool’s last game of the season against Crystal palace when Virgil van Dijk will lift the trophy.
The German has also previously revealed his plan to be at the parade, wishing to experience the event from a fans perspective.
