Ipswich Town v Tottenham Hotspur: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Back-to-back league victories over Brentford and Manchester United have eased some pressure surrounding Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou, but consistency is not Spurs’ strong point and they should be braced for an entertaining encounter at Ipswich Town.

These are two teams desperate for points as Ipswich bid to boost their Premier League survival hopes and Tottenham attempt to make it three wins in a row and finally get themselves back in the top half of the table.

Ipswich find themselves third from bottom, two points adrift of safety following a winless run of six, but they did snap a four-game losing streak with last weekend’s hard-fought 1-1 draw at Aston Villa.

That point at Villa Park came despite them seeing Axel Tuenzebe sent off in the opening half and they did win the reverse fixture with Tottenham in November, with goals from Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap gifting them with a 2-1 victory.

Spurs, meanwhile, are having a season of struggle themselves and they sit 12th, 14 points off the top four, despite successive victories to nil over Brentford and Manchester United.

A long raft of injuries have been the root cause for Spurs’ struggles but players are beginning to return and they will be hoping to finish the campaign strongly.

Ipswich Town v Tottenham Hotspur betting tips and predictions

Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals - 4/5

Tottenham may have kept two clean sheets in a row but it wasn’t like Brentford and Manchester United didn’t have their chances and Ipswich should be confident of making their mark.

Ipswich won at Spurs in November and they also have a home win over Chelsea to their name this season, as well as consolation goals in defeats at Manchester City and Liverpool.

That shows that the Tractor Boys can score against the Premier League’s elite and Tottenham are still without first choice centre-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, which should fill Delap and co with plenty of confidence.

In six of Tottenham’s last nine league matches, both teams have scored in contests featuring at least three goals, and that trend may continue against Ipswich, who have seen the net bulge at both ends in their last three league outings.

The problem is that Ipswich have conceded at least twice in five of their last six league matches and keeping this star-studded Spurs attack at bay looks a steep order.

Liam Delap anytime goalscorer - 15/8

Former Manchester City graduate Delap has shone bright since joining Ipswich on a permanent basis in the summer and he could further enhance his growing reputation with a goal against Spurs.

Delap has 10 goals in 24 league appearances this season and his pace and power is a weapon that could hurt Spurs’ depleted backline.

The confident 22-year-old netted the decisive second goal in November's 2-1 win at Tottenham and he has also got on the scoresheet in back-to-back league games against Southampton and Aston Villa.

Kalvin Phillips to be booked - 7/4

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna tends to pick two from Jean Cajuste, Sam Morsy and Kalvin Phillips in his two holding midfield positions but Cajuste and Phillips may be tough to replace after the recent 1-1 draw at Aston Villa.

Phillips is still trying to work his way back to his best after being shut out at Manchester City, but he has made 14 league appearances this season and is starting to find some consistency.

His position is high risk and fouls should be common occurrence and he has committed 25 of those in only 14 league appearances.

If given the nod, Phillips will be expected to stop Tottenham playing and that could come at a price in the form of a fifth yellow card of the season.
