Ipswich Town v Brighton: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Ipswich Town will be hoping to boost their Premier League survival hopes when they welcome Brighton to Portman Road on Thursday evening.

The Tractor Boys have put together a mini-run across all competitions either side of the new year to keep themselves within touching distance of the teams above them in the table.

Brighton have become draw specialists this season and that inability to turn one point into three has seen them slip into the bottom half of the standings.

Ipswich Town v Brighton betting tips and predictions

Ipswich to win - 31/10

Ipswich head into this contest on a three-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, a run that started with a 2-0 home victory over Chelsea in the league on 30th December.

That win at Portman Road was the perfect way to end 2024 and the Tractor Boys almost followed that up with another triumph against Fulham at Craven Cottage in their first outing of 2025, with the visitors having to settle for a 2-2 draw after conceding a stoppage-time penalty.

Kieran McKenna's side recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup third round at the weekend, making it back-to-back home wins, and the confidence levels continue to rise within the squad.

Ipswich have already taken a point off Brighton this season, drawing 0-0 at the Amex Stadium back in September, and the Suffolk-based outfit look capable of taking all three in this reverse fixture.

While the Seagulls impressed under new manager Fabian Hurzeler in the first couple of months of the season, they have found results harder to come by since and are without a win in their last eight league matches.

Brighton have drawn six of those top-flight assignments, failing to overcome rock-bottom Southampton and struggling Leicester and West Ham, and the south coast outfit are missing that extra bit of spark to get the job done.

Injuries have played a big part in this disappointing run and the Seagulls could be missing 12 first-team players for this Suffolk trip, evidence of the selection issues facing Hurzeler.

With Brighton failing to win their last four away games in the league, this looks like a prime opportunity for Ipswich to rack up their third home in a row and potentially move out of the relegation zone.

Liam Delap anytime goalscorer - 21/10

Ipswich's decision to spend £20million on Manchester City starlet Liam Delap in the summer has proven to be an astute one, with the forward scoring eight goals and registering two assists from 19 league appearances.

The 21-year-old has been involved in exactly half of the Tractor Boys' 20 top-flight goals and he heads into Thursday's visit of Brighton in good form, having netted in his last two outings, against Chelsea and Fulham.

Delap's services were not required in the FA Cup win over Rovers on Sunday, the Englishman was an unused substitute, so he should be fresh and raring to go for this contest.

A penalty in the match - Yes - 7/4

Penalties have become a running theme in Ipswich's last two league games, with the Tractor Boys awarded their first of the league campaign in the 2-0 win over Chelsea at the end of December.

In their next clash against Fulham, the referee pointed to the spot no less than three times at Craven Cottage, handing two to Fulham and one to the visitors.

Ipswich have now conceded five penalties in the league, two more than Brighton, who have been presented with the chance to score from 12 yards out once this term.

Given the attacking nature of these two sides, Thursday's contest could turn into an end-to-end affair and that should increase the chances of a penalty being awarded.

A spot-kick for Ipswich would also help the selection of Delap to score at any time, as he is the designated taker for his side.
