Ipswich Town v Liverpool: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Life after Jurgen Klopp starts in earnest this weekend, as Liverpool start the Arne Slot era with a trip to Ipswich on Saturday.

After Klopp’s shock decision to leave in the summer, his Dutch replacement looks to have slotted straight in at the helm, with some impressive results and displays in pre-season.

Opponents Ipswich have had a sensational rise up the divisions under Kieran McKenna, with two promotions in two seasons.

The Tractor Boys are now taking their biggest step up as they get ready to test themselves at Premier League level.

Ipswich Town v Liverpool betting tips and predictions

Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 6/4

There have been noticeable differences as to how Liverpool have played in pre-season, compared to the ‘heavy-metal’ style of Klopp.

It might not be the same intensity as we’ve seen from the Reds in the last few years, but they have still looked a serious attacking threat.

Slot’s men have beaten the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Sevilla in pre-season, racking up nine goals in those three matches.

It’s also worth noting that the Reds scored eight goals in their last four away games of the last campaign.

Ipswich scored more goals than any other team in the Championship last season, with 59 of their 92 strikes coming at Portman Road.

McKenna’s squad, which has been bolstered by the permanent additions of forwards Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson, did score in each of their four pre-season friendlies.

Diogo Jota to score first – 4/1

After not getting as much game time as hoped for Portugal at Euro 2024, Diogo Jota will be wanting to establish himself as a Liverpool regular this term.

The 27-year-old has rarely been seen as a first-choice forward for the Reds since moving from Wolves in 2020, but his goalscoring record makes impressive reading.

Jota has bagged 41 goals in 97 appearances for Liverpool and the signs have been positive in the lead up to the new season.

The forward scored an outstanding goal in the impressive win over Sevilla at Anfield – the opener in a 4-1 success over the La Liga outfit.

Slot has alluded to the fact that Jota will start the season opener and, if he stays fit, he may have an integral part to play for the Reds in the 2024/25 campaign.

Of the last three competitive goals the former Porto man has scored for Liverpool, two of them have been the opening strike of the match.

Over 3.5 Goals - Evs

All the stats suggest there will be goals at Portman Road in the lunchtime kick-off, especially when you consider the displays of both sides towards the end of last season.

In Liverpool’s last six league fixtures of the 2023-24 league campaign, four of those matches saw over 2.5 goals.

In 29 competitive away games last season, the Merseysiders scored in all but one – April’s 2-0 defeat at Everton.

As mentioned before, Ipswich scored more goals than any other team in the Championship, with an average of two goals per game.

They were particularly strong on home soil last term. McKenna’s men had 27 competitive matches at Portman Road, with 20 of those games seeing three or more goals.
