Despite making an unbeaten start, the UEFA Champions League runners-up Inter Milan have not impressed in their first two games at the FIFA Club World Cup and they face a tough test against Argentinian side River Plate in Group E.

Both teams have four points after beating Urawa Red Diamonds and drawing with Monterrey in their first two matches, but things could really get interesting if the Mexican side join them both in beating the Japanese club in the other match.

Inter are 6/5 favourites to get a win that would see them top the group but new manager Cristian Chivu will be hoping for a better performance from his team than they have managed so far.

It's perhaps understandable that Inter Milan have not looked anywhere near their best so far at the Club World Cup.

A 5-0 battering by Paris Saint-Germain must have been a crushing blow for their players, who then didn't get the chance to go away and regroup as they had this major tournament to play.

On top of that, Inter have had to deal with a change of manager after Simone Inzaghi departed to join Al-Hilal. New coach Cristian Chivu has not had much time to teach his methods to the squad and it has been evident.

Inter drew 1-1 in their opener against Monterrey and then got a real scare from group underdogs Urawa Red Diamonds, who led for more than an hour before late goals from star man Lautaro Martinez and Valentin Carboni gave the Serie A club a crucial 2-1 win.

Neither side are used to losing, with the UEFA Champions League final bringing Inter's only loss in their last nine games, while River Plate are on an 18-match unbeaten run.

Inter have the slightly stronger position as a win or a draw definitely puts them in the last 16, while a win would certainly be good enough for the Argentinians, but only a draw of 2-2 or higher would definitely suffice if the scores are level in this match and Monterrey beat Urawa.

River Plate are yet to concede from open play in the competition, with a Urawa penalty being the only goal they have allowed, but their chances are hampered by the suspension of three midfield players.

Confidence should be high after a good performance in their goalless draw against Monterrey but they will also be frustrated not to have won after having 19 shots compared to just three for the Mexican side.

Both these teams played out tight matches against the other potential contenders in this group, Monterrey, and it could be a similar story when they face each other.

While River Plate comfortably beat the Red Diamonds 3-1 and Inter had more of a struggle to see off the Japanese side 2-1, they both drew with Monterrey, Inter in a 1-1 game and River Plate in a goalless encounter.

Another 1-1 contest looks a worthwhile correct-score option to start a bet builder given that Inter have scored and conceded in both of their games but they should find it hard to breach the Argentinian side's defences more than once.

Inter's own Argentinian star, Martinez, looks their most likely source of a goal as he bids to keep up his record of scoring in every match of the tournament.

However, as Inter have conceded the first goal in both of their matches - as they did in their previous outing in the UEFA Champions League final against PSG - it may be best to add him to be Inter's first team goalscorer rather than to notch first in the match.

Inter could have Denzel Dumfries in their side for the first time in the tournament while Federico Dimarco is also available. Hakan Calhanoglu, Davide Frattesi and Marcus Thuram are being monitored but Benjamin Pavard, Piotr Zielinski and Yann Bisseck are still out.
