Inter Miami have passed up on their first refusal in the MLS to hold talks with outgoing Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.
David Beckham-owned Inter Miami had De Bruyne on their 'discovery list' meaning they had the first option to sign the Belgian should he become available.
Following the news Man City would not be extending De Bruyne's contract at the Etihad beyond this summer, Inter Miami were naturally linked as likely suitors for the former Chelsea midfielder.
However, it is now believed Inter Miami will not take up their option to add De Bruyne to a squad already boasting a host of legendary figures including Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
Chicago Fire have reportedly taken on the MLS' first option to enter talks with De Bruyne's representatives as the Eastern Conference side eye a marquee new signing.
De Bruyne, who has won 16 trophies with Man City over the past decade, has spoken of his surprise at not being offered a new deal at the Etihad.
The Belgium international told the media following City's 2-0 Premier League win against Everton at Goodison Park last month:
Obviously, I was a bit surprised but I just have to accept it. Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I'm showing, but I understand clubs have to make decisions.
De Bruyne has also unexpectedly revealed he is not ruling out moving on to one of City's Premier League rivals, prompting reports Unai Emery's Aston Villa could be tempted into making a move for the midfield playmaker.
The ex-Wolfsburg creator is unlikely to be short of suitors, with Saudi Pro League clubs always on the lookout for high-profile names to attract new eyeballs on the competition.
One of the Premier League's greatest ever players, De Bruyne will depart Man City as a bona fide legend of the club having won essentially every trophy available for the Citizens to win.
