Pep Guardiola confirms that Ilkay Gundogan's contract at Manchester City will now expire in June 2026 following a one-year extension.
Initially joining Man City in 2016, Ilkay Gundogan enjoyed seven years at the club before making the move to Barcelona in 2023.
After a single season away from the Etihad, the German midfielder would return to the Citizens on a free transfer on an initial one-year contract in August 2024, with the option for a further season.
Following confirmation from Guardiola, both Gundogan and the club have agreed to trigger the extension in the 34 year old's contract, which could now see his time at the club extended until June 2026.
Despite the contract extension, it is expected that Gundogan will have opportunities to leave the club in the summer transfer window, with interest reportedly emerging from clubs in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and his homeland of Germany.
An extension in Gundogan's contract means any potential suitors would be required to pay a transfer fee, unless Man City decided otherwise.
