Hull City v Swansea City: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Hull City sign off their 2024 home schedule with a Championship visit from Swansea City and are desperate for the win which they hope could lift them out of the bottom three.

Top of Ruben Selles' Christmas wishlist is a win after two failures so far, while the vastly-improved Swans will be hoping to return to winning ways after last weekend's defeat at home to Sunderland.

Hull City v Swansea City betting tips and predictions

Swansea City win - 7/4

Christmas cheer is in short supply at the MKM Stadium where Hull are bracing themselves for the very real possibility that they will enter 2025 in the Championship bottom three.

Selles arrived at the club a few weeks ago bearing gifts of hope and promise after a relatively successful spell at crisis club Reading.

But one point from six was hardly the start Tigers' fans wanted from their new boss and if it really is the season to be jolly, then the Spaniard could do with a festive three points off the Swans.

The problem is that Selles inherited a mess, a side who had gone nine matches without a win when he was appointed.

He watched helplessly from the stands as his new team then lost again, 1-0 at home to Blackburn Rovers, before taking charge of a 1-1 draw against Watford and last Saturday's 2-1 loss at Coventry City, after which he read the riot act in the dressing room.

The feelgood factor surrounding his appointment - or more specifically Tim Walter's exit - is still there, but it won't take too many more disappointing performances at the MKM for the mood to change.

And the problem is very much on home turf, where Hull have been awful all year. It was a run of just one win in eight home matches from the turn of the year which effectively wrecked their play-off charge under Liam Rosenior.

This season they have managed only one win, a 4-1 drubbing of a Cardiff City side who were bottom of the table at the time.

All of this has to encourage the Swans to believe they can take all three points.

They had a mixed start to the season - a five-game scoring drought the low point - but they are heading in the right direction now on a run of three losses in nine. Those losses were against Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland - three sides on a different level to Hull.

Coach Luke Williams was honest after last week's 3-2 home defeat to Sunderland that they weren't at that level yet, but 14 away points this season shows they know how to handle themselves on the road.

Liam Cullen Anytime Scorer - 13/5

Swansea playmaker Liam Cullen has come of age this season and come to life in the past few weeks.

The 23-year-old academy graduate became a fixture in the side last term with seven goals. Now he's pretty much the first name on the teamsheet.

Indeed, his performances for the Swans have also earned him international recognition and last month he shone in Wales' Nations League clash with Iceland, scoring twice in a 4-1 triumph.

That ignited Cullen's goalscoring touch as he added four more goals in his subsequent six appearances, culminating in last week's 3-2 loss to Sunderland in which he contributed a fabulous free-kick.

Cullen is class and given a chance will find the net. He is 13/5 to do so at any time and looks a fair call.

Corner Race to 5 - Swansea @ 6/5

Only Leeds have seen more of the ball than Swansea in Championship away matches this season and that possession-based game does lead to the Swans clocking up points on their travels and also corners.

With four wins and two draws away from their Liberty Stadium fortress they know how to run an away game.

And it's perhaps no surprise that they actually win more corners as an away team than a home team - they average 5.5 away, 4.7 at home.

In Selles' two games in charge of the Tigers they have won just one corner before the 62nd minute, which looks to leave them exposed in a Corner Race to three or five, though maybe not any higher.
