Two teams fighting it out for Championship survival will meet at the MKM Stadium on Tuesday night as Hull City host Plymouth Argyle.
It has been a testing season for Hull, who went 13 games without a victory from early October and mid-December and remain at risk of a bottom-three finish.
The Tigers appointed Ruben Selles in early December and have shown some improvement although they suffered a setback last Tuesday when losing 1-0 away to Cardiff.
Plymouth are three points worse off and had a break from the relegation scrap at the weekend when sustaining an honourable 3-1 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round.
Hull win to nil - 13/8
Hull are awaiting their first home win of 2025 but the moment could arrive when they take on Plymouth in a key clash at the MKM Stadium.
After spending much of last season pushing for a place in the playoffs, Hull have had to readjust to life in the lower reaches of the Championship table.
Poor home results have been a key part of their struggles, with only two of eight league wins registered on familiar soil.
However, there has been a general improvement in Hull’s performances since the turn of the year, which has contributed to some eye-catching results.
The Tigers came from two goals behind to draw 3-3 at home to leaders Leeds, and they were worthy winners away to Sheffield United (3-0) and Sunderland (1-0).
Competing with the top teams doesn’t seem to be a problem, but there have been too many instances of struggles against the league’s lesser lights.
Selles’s side started February with a 2-1 loss at home to struggling Stoke and ended the month with a 1-0 reverse away to relegation rivals Cardiff.
After the Cardiff defeat, Selles spoke about his frustration with the fluctuating levels of his team’s performance.
However, Selles and his players have had a free weekend and should be recharged and refocused for the remainder of the season.
While Hull have had plenty of time to put plans in place, Plymouth went through an emotionally and physically demanding weekend with their high-profile FA Cup fifth-round fixture at Manchester City.
They performed an impressive rearguard effort at the Etihad and took a shock lead with Maksym Talovierov’s superb header.
However, they lost the shot count 29 to one and tired towards the end as City plotted a path to the final eight.
Argyle would expect a more even contest against Hull, although it would be understandable if their levels of intensity and concentration were to drop.
They remain winless on their Championship travels, scoring just six goals, and may struggle to seriously trouble Hull, who look a solid wager to register a victory and a clean sheet.
Matt Crooks to score at anytime - 12/5
Hull have lacked a prolific scorer this season, but attacking midfielder Matt Crooks has given them a penalty box presence in recent weeks and looks a likely match-winner against Argyle.
Crooks has broken the deadlock in two of Hull’s last six fixtures and is a tempting 12/5 shot to make another scoring contribution.
Matt Sorinola to be carded - 12/5
Plymouth’s defence are set for another busy evening and their efforts to resist might result in a few yellow cards.
Pilgrims’ right back Matthew Sorinola has collected six cautions from just 18 league appearances and he looks an overpriced card candidate at 12/5.
