Huddersfield Town v Bolton Wanderers: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Huddersfield Town have recovered after a slow start to the League One season to put themselves firmly in the race for automatic promotion, while the ongoing struggles of Bolton Wanderers have cost Ian Evatt his job.

The Trotters parted company with Evatt following Tuesday's 2-1 defeat by Charlton Athletic at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, their 10th league defeat of the season.

It left Bolton down in ninth spot, three points adrift of the play-off places, while hosts Huddersfield are fourth, but with games in hand on two of the three sides currently above them in the standings.

The Terriers are unbeaten in 16 in the league ahead of this lunchtime clash with Bolton.

Huddersfield Town v Bolton Wanderers betting tips and predictions

Huddersfield Town to win and both teams to score – 11/4

Evatt arrived at Bolton in 2020 and won automatic promotion from League Two in his first season, before leading Wanderers to the EFL Trophy at Wembley in 2023 as well as last season's League One playoff final, where they were defeated by Oxford United.

His side were amongst the pre-season promotion favourites off the back of that but a disappointing campaign so far has yielded just 11 wins in 26 games, with their 10 league losses already more than they suffered throughout the regular season last time.

The axe duly fell on Evatt, with the Lancashire club confirming that academy coaches Julian Darby, Andy Taylor and Andrew Tutte will lead the team on an interim basis.

They take over a team with just two wins in their last nine and now struggling for an identity with the possession-based football of Evatt failing them.

They have, however, scored in their last seven League One outings and can be dangerous here, having netted in four of the last five on the road.

Huddersfield have drawn three of their last four at home. They came from 0-2 down at half-time away to Blackpool to claim a draw last time out. They will be anxious to get after a visiting side low on confidence but could get caught out, especially if Bolton's squad react to the new voices in their ears. The home side to win an entertaining clash looks the way to go.

Dion Charles to score at any time – 7/4

Dion Charles comes up against his former employers after swapping Bolton for Huddersfield this month.

The 29-year-old Northern Ireland international scored 45 goals in 122 league appearances for the Trotters.

The forward cited the 'ambition' of Huddersfield as a motivating factor in his decision to make the move.

It was the second time this month that Town had bolstered their frontline after the addition of striker Joe Taylor from Luton Town.

The 22-year-old got his first goal in that comeback draw at Blackpool, where he partnered Charles up top for the first time.

The latter found the net seven times this season despite Bolton's deficiencies and could pile the misery on his former teammates with a first goal for his new club now.

Huddersfield Town to score in both halves – 2/1

Bolton's tally of 41 goals conceded in 26 games is the worst of any League One side outside of the bottom six entering this round of games.

With the unrest in the visiting camp, Huddersfield boss Michael Duff will be urging his side to come out and put a fragile Bolton outfit under pressure from the start.

Allied to his brand new frontline, it could bode well for the home side and the 2/1 on Huddersfield finding the net in each half appeals given Bolton's defensive record this season, with 10 goals shipped in their last five in the league.
