Hibernian v Rangers: Predictions, Tips and Odds

Hibernian and Rangers meet in the third of four Scottish FA Cup quarter-finals and the visiting skipper's set-piece quality could decide Sunday's game.

The Gers have already collected silverware this season, lifting the Scottish League Cup thanks to James Tavernier's winner in December's 1-0 win over Aberdeen and will be plotting a return to Hampden Park for the semi-finals of this competition.

First, they must overcome a tricky away trip to Easter Road to face a Hibernian side who have avoided defeat in their last five games and had a week to prepare since beating Ross County 2-0.

Philippe Clement's side were in Europa League action on Thursday, drawing 2-2 away against Benfica.

The Belgian may look to rotate his side, but will be desperate to avoid complacency, especially after last weekend's lacklustre 2-1 home loss to Motherwell.

Rangers have a fine recent record against Hibs, inspired by their captain Tavernier and his quality from set-pieces could prove crucial in Edinburgh.

Hibernian v Rangers betting predictions and tips

Rangers to win and both teams to score - 2/1

Rangers are chasing a 35th Scottish Cup, with their current tally leaving them seven behind Celtic, who host Livingston earlier on Sunday.

They have a fabulous record against three-time winners Hibs, winning seven of the last eight meetings, the odd one out being a 2-2 draw in which Tavernier opened the scoring.

Nick Montgomery's hosts are unbeaten in five in all competitions and look set to be on the right side of the split when the Scottish Premiership divides into two midway through next month.

A cup run always provides a nice distraction, but it could be the end of the road on Sunday. The Gers got away with one slip-up, as their defeat to Motherwell was cancelled out by Celtic's defeat at Hearts.

There is no room for error or fortune in cup competitions, but their 2-2 draw against Benfica emphasised how strong the Gers squad is and they have the quality to come through a tough assignment.

James Tavernier anytime goalscorer - 2/1

Set-pieces could be a feature at Easter Road and it is hard to ignore Tavernier's goalscoring record, especially for a defender.

The 32-year-old's successful penalty against Motherwell increased his tally to 21 goals in all competitions, and he netted three times in as many visits to Easter Road last season.

Tavernier missed out on a goal in Lisbon but has scored four times in his last four Scottish Premiership games (three penalties and a free-kick).

It is noticeable that neither side has scored a penalty in four of Rangers' last five matches in all competitions.

However, the added nerves of a cup tie could contribute to some silly fouls and the former Newcastle man's record makes him a candidate to add to his scoring tally.

Joe Newell - Player to be booked - 13/8

Hibs have been highly disciplined recently, receiving just one yellow card in their last three games.

A player to have cleaned up his act has been Joe Newell, who has eight yellows for the season but none in his last five.

However, his most recent caution came in last month's 2-1 home defeat to Celtic, while he was also booked in October's 4-0 reverse at Ibrox.

Newell is a player made for the Scottish Premiership, mixing some maverick moments of skill with a dash of devilment and he will be looking forward to his likely midfield duel with John Lundstram.

Expect to see those two get stuck into each other and the former Rotherham man's efforts may result in another caution.
