Gillingham and holders Peterborough United begin their EFL Trophy campaigns with a Southern section, Group D clash at Priestfield on Tuesday.
Gillingham have made a fine start to the new season, surging to the top of League Two thanks to three wins and a draw from their first four matches.
Peterborough, who won the EFL Trophy last season by beating Wycombe Wanderers in the final at Wembley in April, have won two and lost two so far in League One.
The other two sides in the group are Stevenage and Crystal Palace U21.
Gillingham v Peterborough United will be available to watch on Sky Sports+.
This EFL Trophy group-stage clash is scheduled to kick-off at 19:00 BST on Tuesday 3rd September and will be played at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium.
Gillingham have picked up 10 points out of a possible 12 in League Two so far, beating Carlisle United and Chesterfield at home and Morecambe away, while they were held to a goalless draw by Fleetwood Town.
Gillingham's only defeat this season has come in the EFL Cup when they lost 3-1 at Swansea City last month.
Peterborough have won their two away games in League One so far against Shrewsbury Town and Exeter City but they have lost twice at home, going down to Wrexham and Huddersfield Town, while they were also knocked out of the EFL Cup by Oxford United.
The two teams have only met once before in this competition, when Posh won 1-0 at Gillingham in December 1997, but they have faced each other 54 times down the years, with Peterborough winning 18 of those games, the Gills have come out on top on 15 occasions and there have been 21 draws.

Glenn Morris is set to keep his place in goal with Jake Turner injured, while Tim Dieng, Jayden Clarke and Bradley Dack are among those pushing for recalls for the home side.
Peterborough are expected to make changes for the trip to Priesfield with players who have not had much action yet this season likely to be given a chance.
Striker Chris Conn-Clarke is being tipped to start, while Ricky-Jade Jones, Cian Hayes and Donay O'Brien-Brady are amongst the others who could come in for the visitors.
