Wales’s efforts to reach Euro 2024 ended in failure with a penalty shootout loss to Poland but they will be hoping to lift spirits with a convincing victory over Gibraltar.
Building up to the Nations League will also be on the minds of Gibraltar as they seek to end a 13-match losing run.
Wales to win 4-0 - 5/1
Wales were gutted to miss out on a place at Euro 2024 but they can begin the long process of recovery with a comfortable victory over Gibraltar at Estadio Do Algarve.
At least four changes will have to be made by Welsh head coach Rob Page, who is without senior quartet Joe Rodon, Connor Roberts, Neco Williams and Harry Wilson.
Page is especially short of experienced defenders with only Ben Davies and Chris Mepham capped more than 10 times and he may have to consider debuts for uncapped wingbacks Josh Dasilva and Finn Stevens.
However, an understrength back line is unlikely to be seriously tested by Gibraltar, who have lost all of their last 13 games without scoring a goal.
Julio Cesar Ribas’s side have been largely focused on their defensive work and they registered just one shot in Monday’s acceptable 2-0 loss at home to Scotland.
Gibraltar had to put in a tough shift against the Scots and they might struggle to achieve a similarly respectable outcome against Wales.
The strength in the Welsh squad appears to be in attack with Dan James, Brennan Johnson and Nathan Broadhead vying for places behind target man Kieffer Moore.
Gibraltar should be in for a sterner examination and could be outclassed by their visitors, who look tempting 5/1 shots to seal a 4-0 victory.
Kieffer Moore to score the first goal - 12/5
Wales striker Kieffer Moore has a modest international scoring record, notching 12 times in 41 matches, but he looks the man most likely to break the deadlock against a defensive-minded Gibraltar and is worth a first scorer wager at 12/5.
Operating with a low defensive block is the default setting for Gibraltar, who have been doing their utmost to be tougher to play against.
They will be heavily focused on limiting the spaces for pacy Welsh attackers Brennan Johnson and Dan James but could find it more difficult to keep a lid on Moore, who is renowned for his aerial prowess.
Wales are likely to win plenty of corners and attacking set-pieces and will be aiming to involve their centre-forward on multiple occasions.
Gibraltar will be aware of what is coming, but they may lack the wherewithal to snuff out the threat.
Moore bagged a first-half brace when Wales triumphed 4-0 at home to Gibraltar in a friendly match in October last year and he could do some more damage against the same opposition.
Over 2.5 second half goals - 5/4
Gibraltar tired in the second half of Monday’s 2-0 loss to Scotland, conceding two goals, and a similar story could unfold against Wales, who are likely to get stronger as the match wears on.
Almost every match for Gibraltar is an exercise in damage limitation and they had a successful first 45 minutes against the Scots, who were unable to make the breakthrough before the interval.
However, the Gibraltarians were carrying some tired legs as the match progressed and they were ultimately relieved to come away with a two-goal loss having lost the shot count 25 to one.
Scotland could have done more damage during a dominant second half and there is every chance that Wales will show a more clinical, ruthless touch.
The Red Dragons have not scored more than two second half goals since a 5-1 victory at home to Belarus in a November 2021 World Cup qualifier, but they look solid 5/4 shots to repeat the feat on their visit to the Algarve..
Gibraltar - 40/1
Draw - 14/1
Wales - 1/28
