Germany v Hungary Prediction, Tips and Odds: Hosts to win in Stuttgart

Germany face Hungary in Stuttgart on Wednesday evening and Julian Nagelsmann's team should be good enough to make it successive Euro 2024 wins on home soil.

Hungary have proved to be a thorn in Germany's side, including a shock win in Leipzig when they last met in a 2022 Nations League game, but they were second best in their tournament opener against Switzerland and face a huge challenge now against the buoyant host nation.

Germany had five different scores in their demolition of Scotland and will be eager to build on that momentum.

They are 1/4 to make it two wins in two, while Hungary can be backed at 9/1 for a stunning upset win and the draw is priced at 11/2 at the Stuttgart Arena.

Germany to win and over 2.5 goals @ 4/5

This tournament has opened in an entertaining fashion, with lots of goals going in. Surprisingly, two of the pre-tournament favourites in England and France were involved in lower scoring games.

Germany's opener with Scotland had six, while Hungary's clash with Switzerland had four on Saturday.

The 5-1 rout of Steve Clarke's side was an historic outing for Germany, the biggest opening win that the competition has ever seen.

Germany had five different scorers in Munich as 21-year-old's Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala paved the way before Kai Havertz's penalty and late goals from Niclas Fullkrug and Emre Can.

Hungary's record against the Germans is good. They are unbeaten in the last three, a 2-2 draw at Euro 2020 and then in the UEFA Nations League in September 2022 as boss Marco Rossi masterminded a remarkable 1-0 win in Leipzig.

A repeat success on German soil looks unlikely after their opening loss.

Goals from Kwadwo Duah and Michel Aebischer put the Swiss in control at half-time and, while Barnabas Varga reduced the arrears in the second period, they were finally put away in stoppage time by Breel Embolo's strike after a defensive mix-up.

On that evidence, they won't prevent Germany earning another win and given the way the goals have flowed so far and the attacking prowess shown against Scotland, the value looks to be in siding with the hosts to win and over 2.5 goals in the match at 4/5.

Jamal Musiala to score first @ 11/2

One of the two 21-year-old scorers against Scotland, Bayern Munich's Musiala was outstanding on Friday.

He thundered in the second goal, his third for Germany and easily the most satisfying, while he was also involved in so much of what the hosts did well going forward.

His pace, power and quick feet were causing Scotland any manner of bother and he nearly won a penalty in the first half.

Every time he had the ball, his desire was to drive at the Scottish defence and more of the same should be coming for Hungary now.

He got a standing ovation leaving the field for veteran Thomas Muller on Friday and should go on and become one of the stars of this competition.

He appeals at 7/4 to score anytime in a game where his team-mates should facilitate him seeing plenty of the ball, but is put forward here at 11/2 to score the opener.

Milos Kerkez to be booked at 15/4

Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez was deployed on the left-hand side of a midfield four against Switzerland in Rossi's 3-4-3 line-up.

The talented 20-year-old is more accustomed to a deeper role with the Cherries and, given Germany are hefty favourites, may find himself cast further back this time, especially when his side are out of possession.

His first season of Premier League football brought 28 appearances, four yellow cards and one red.

In fact, his final two appearances brought that dismissal for a poor challenge on Matt Doherty of Wolves and a caution against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

He's likely to see plenty of Musiala in this game and could be tempted into some challenges where the lightning fast attacker makes him look rash.

He also likes to get forward and impressed against the Swiss in that regard, so there's a chance he gets caught high up the field when Hungary get there and also may be tempted into a tactical foul in retreat, ensuring he may come to the attention of the referee one way or another.
