Galatasaray v Trabzonspor: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Galatasaray remain unbeaten in the Turkish Super Lig this season and should be able to maintain that record when struggling Trabzonspor visit Rams Park on Monday.

The Yellow-Reds have been in impressive form, winning 12 and drawing two of their 14 league matches this season to sit at the top of the table.

Their most recent Super Lig outing saw them edge past Sivasspor 3-2 despite playing with 10 men for most of the match.

Trabzonspor, meanwhile, have endured a disappointing campaign so far. The Black Sea Storm sit just two points above the relegation zone, having won only three of their 14 league games.

Under Senol Gunes, who returned for a fifth spell in charge earlier this season, they have managed just one victory in their last six matches.

Galatasaray could be boosted by the return of star striker Victor Osimhen for Monday’s game.

The Nigerian came off in pain against Sivasspor and subsequently missed their midweek Europa League clash against Malmo.

Michy Batshuayi was handed the central striker’s role in Sweden and he could again fulfil that role if Osimhen, whose chances of starting are rated 50-50, is unable to play from the first whistle.

Mauro Icardi is no longer an option up front after the Argentinian ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in their UEFA Europa League win against Tottenham last month.

Defender Kaan Ayhan, who has missed the last three weeks with a muscle injury, has returned to training and could feature, but Colombian centre-back Davinson Sanchez is out after sustaining an injury against Malmo.

Already without the likes of experienced stars Stefan Savic, Huseyin Turkmen and Stefan Denswil at the back, Trabzonspor could be further depleted in defence.

Young centre-back Serdar Saatci, who started last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Kasimpasa, missed Friday’s training session.

Despite dealing with several key injuries, Gala remain strong favourites to secure all three points at home. 

The Lions, who have won six of their eight home matches in the Super Lig this season, have had a happy knack of scoring a goal just when they need it the most.

They have needed to score multiple goals at home because of a lack of clean sheets at Rams Park.

And that looks likely to be the case on Monday against a Trabzonspor side who have found scoring less of a problem than keeping goals out of their own net.

The visitors, who have Super Lig joint-top scorer Simon Banza leading their attack with nine goals this season, have scored in each of their last four away league games.

However, Gunes’ side have shipped two or more goals in three of those and lost them all.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray have conceded at least once in four of their last five league games, three of which they went on to win.

Turkish forward Yunus Akgun has taken on more responsibility for goalscoring during the recent absences of Osimhen, Icardi and Baris Alper Yilmaz.

The 24-year-old has scored in each of Gala’s last two games and now has eight goals in all competitions this season.

Galatasaray's home matches have seen an average of 3.88 goals per game this season and another high-scoring clash could be in store on Monday evening.

The Lions have scored at least two goals in 88% of their home fixtures and, while Trabzonspor have struggled overall, they've shown the ability to get on the scoresheet too on their travels.

Four of their last five matches and all of Galatasaray’s last three in all competitions have featured at least four goals.
