England are desperate for a win in France to stop their Women's European Championship qualification quest going completely off course, but they look to be up against it when they head to Saint-Etienne to take on Les Bleues.
France Women have enjoyed a full return from their three qualifiers following their 2-1 win against England in Newcastle on Friday, which left Sarina Wiegman’s side on four points from their opening three games.
The Lionesses know they have plenty of work left to do if they are to get the chance to defend their trophy in Switzerland next summer.
France to win - 6/5
It is not quite panic stations for England Women yet, but the Lionesses have left themselves with a tough task to ensure they are at next summer’s Euros after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to France on Friday.
That loss means victory for Les Bleues in Tuesday’s game in Saint-Etienne will be enough to guarantee a place for Herve Renard’s team in Switzerland next summer and they could even progress with a draw if Sweden fail to beat the Republic of Ireland in the night’s other Group A3 game.
With the top two in each section qualifying, it looks as if it will come down to the Lionesses’ clash against the Swedes next month, so in some ways Tuesday’s game in Saint-Etienne is a free hit for Sarina Wiegman’s team.
But key injuries are a concern and the value looks to lie with the home side, who have won nine of their last 11 games.
England’s defending on the road has been generally sound with nine clean sheets having been earned in their last 11 away games.
But the absence of star goalkeeper Mary Earps is a massive blow and with Chelsea playmaker Lauren James also set to miss out, the home team look to have the edge.
The opportunity is there for Renard’s side to put the group to bed and, after winning nine of their last 11 matches, they look a good-value bet to come out on top in Tuesday's clash.
Under 2.5 goals - 4/5
France’s victory at St James’ Park was only the fourth time in their last 12 matches that Les Bleues have been involved in a game that featured more than two goals, and despite the fact England have won just two of their 19 games against their rivals from across the channel, it could prove a tight encounter.
A pair of 1-0 victories over Ireland and Sweden put France firmly in control of the group before that win in Newcastle and both England’s games before then were low-scoring too as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Swedes and won 2-0 in Dublin.
The Lionesses have been freescoring when playing lesser nations on the road and fired in 12 goals in friendly wins over Austria and Italy in February, but this looks like it could be a lot closer and the chances of a large number of successful strikes looks to be low.
Georgia Stanway to be booked - 3/1
Getting something from the game would be a huge boost for England after Friday’s disappointment, they will hope to avoid going through the play-offs for the chance to defend their European title in Switzerland.
We can anticipate a key midfield battle and Bayern Munich’s Georgia Stanway looks set to be in the thick of things in the middle of the park for the Lionesses.
The former Manchester City star committed more than double the number of fouls than any of her teammates in the Frauen-Bundesliga this season and picked up eight bookings in all competitions, so it would not be a surprise if she fell foul of the referee in this clash.
