France and England have been dealing with intense disappointment since the World Cup semi-finals, but both have the opportunity to finish on a high when they face each other at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Saturday.
The pain of defeat remains especially fresh in the memory for Thomas Tuchel's England, who must get up for one more challenge less than three days after their World Cup dreams were dashed.
Changes are expected with Tuchel likely to offer game time to some of the fringe players in his squad and perhaps take the first step on the long road to building a team with the capability to challenge on home soil at Euro 2028.
But Tuchel should be equally aware of the importance of giving the England fans a more positive performance than was the case against Argentina.
While the German gets on with planning for the future, Les Bleus manager Didier Deschamps is coming to the end of 14 largely successful years in the post.
Deschamps led France to back-to-back World Cup finals, but his players fell short against Spain and they will be eager to respond.

Best Bet: France to win @ 9/10
France fell well below expected standards in Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Spain, but they have excelled for the majority of the tournament and can sign off with a victory over England, who may find it tougher to bounce back from semi-final despair.
Deschamps may choose to hand out more game time to Golden Boot contender Kylian Mbappe while making changes to other areas of the team.
But France have immense strength-in-depth and are especially well stocked in attack with the likes of Desire Doue and Rayan Cherki among the options to come into the starting XI.
Meanwhile, England have been heavily reliant on six-goal duo Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, who have contributed 12 of their 14 tournament goals.
Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney could get their chance, but both lack match sharpness and they may struggle to shine against a side which has kept four clean sheets in seven matches.
Alternative Bet: Jarell Quansah to be carded @ 6/1
Jarell Quansah’s memories of the 2026 World Cup are likely to be bittersweet due to his red card against Mexico and the subsequent two-game suspension he was required to serve.
Quansah was slightly unlucky in the incident against Mexico because the tackle he made on Jesus Gallardo was made to look a lot worse by his leg bouncing up after contact with the ball.
However, Quansah is a robust player, who collected a club-high tally of nine Bundesliga yellow cards for Leverkusen across the 2025/26 campaign.
He could come back into the side against France and may add to his World Cup card collection (one yellow and one red).
Rising French star Desire Doue should have at least a couple more World Cups to look forward to, and he can leave a positive final impression on the summer by scoring or assisting against England.
Doue has bundles of pace and technical ability and can cause problems for England, who have struggled in the full back positions.
Morgan Rogers has had a mixed World Cup, but he remains a favourite of Tuchel due to his ultra-competitive nature. The 23-year-old works extremely hard off the ball and could commit multiple fouls against France.
Changes to the English attack could include a recall for Marcus Rashford.
The 28-year-old has hit the target in three of five World Cup appearances and can do the same this weekend.
