France v Belgium Prediction, Tips and Odds: Lukaku to find the net

Neighbours France and Belgium's big last-16 Euros showdown could go the distance in Dusseldorf on Monday.

Both sides have struggled to show their top form in Germany so far, but with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs more is now expected of both Les Bleus and the Red Devils.

With world class players on show for both, the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Kevin De Bruyne will hope to star in Monday's eagerly-anticipated showdown in Dusseldorf.

Draw - 11/5

It is fair to say much-fancied France have so far failed to live up to expectations in Germany.

An opening Group D win over Austria was only achieved thanks to Maximilian Wober's own goal, while key man Mbappe suffered a broken nose.

Without Mbappe, Didier Deschamps' side then played out an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Netherlands before the Real Madrid new boy returned to score a penalty against Poland in the final group game.

That effort wasn't enough to secure victory, though, as the already-eliminated Poles hit back through a Robert Lewandowski spot-kick, meaning France go into the last-16 with one win and two draws so far and looking a pale shadow of the side that reached the World Cup final in Qatar in 2022.

Mbappe's tournament is yet to get going properly, largely due to his injury, while other star men like Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele have also failed to shine in Germany so far.

However, we should expect to see an improved France in the knockout stages and they will surely have to be better if they want to progress past a talented Belgium side.

The Red Devils bounced back from a shock opening group defeat to Slovakia to see off Romania 2-0 before being held by Ukraine 0-0 in their final group clash.

There have been glimpses of class from De Bruyne, who scored the second goal against Romania, while Romelu Lukaku has been somewhat unlucky in the tournament as the on-loan Roma frontman has had three goals chalked off by VAR.

There is no shortage of recognisable quality in the Belgium squad with the likes of Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans, Manchester City's Jeremy Doku and Arsenal's Leandro Trossard all capable of inspiring them in the final third.

With two seemingly well-matched sides set to go head-to-head, it would be no surprise to see a tight clash in Dusseldorf play out and extra-time and even penalties might be needed with the score tipped to be level at the end of normal time.

Romelu Lukaku to score anytime - 12/5

Lukaku came into the tournament as one of the contenders to win the Golden Boot, but the former Manchester United striker has so far had a luckless time in Germany.

The 31-year-old, who is Belgium's record goalscorer with 85 goals, had two goals harshly disallowed against Slovakia, one for offside and the other for handball.

He then thought he'd got off the mark when he found the net in the 2-0 victory against Romania, but was adjudged to be just offside again by VAR.

Lukaku wasted a couple of good chances in the final group game against Ukraine and he's had 10 attempts at goal - seven of which have been on target - in total in Germany to underline his threat in the final third.

If he continues to get chances in the penalty area then the prolific striker must surely take one of them and he looks a good selection in the anytime goalscorer market against France at 12/5.

N'Golo Kante - Over 1.5 shots - 7/2

Overall, France have yet to hit the heights expected of them in Germany, but former Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante has enjoyed a fine tournament so far.

The 33-year-old has controlled proceedings from midfield and has also looked to get forward at times, having two shots in the second group game against the Dutch.

He followed that up with another against the Poles, although he was substituted by Deschamps on the hour mark in the final group game.

Kante will look to lead by example again against Belgium and he seems to be in the mood to strike from distance if the opportunity arises.
