A 13-game unbeaten run has put Forest Green Rovers in an excellent position to secure a return to the Football League and Steve Cotterill’s side can go top of the table with a home victory over Dagenham & Redbridge on Wednesday.
The Green Army were only relegated from League Two last season and they are seeking to make an immediate return, something that is never easy to do once you find yourself in an ultra-competitive National League.
That means Forest Green have endured back-to-back relegations from League One to non-league and they have done well to steady the ship, losing only twice in 24 outings and recording 14 victories.
Many will be expecting the hot streak to continue against the Daggers, who sit 15th in the table and have struggled away from their beloved Essex base.
Ben Strevens’ side have won only two of their opening 12 away games and there are not many tougher trips at present in the National League than a journey to The New Lawn.
Forest Green Rovers to win to nil - 13/8
Forest Green Rovers are on a real roll under Cotterill and warrant odds-on favouritism against the Daggers, who have struggled to put their best foot forward away from home.
The Green Army have lost only one of their last 21 league matches and they are particularly formidable at the New Lawn, where they are yet to taste defeat in 11 attempts.
Forest Green have won eight and drawn three of their 11 home league matches this season and have been breached only eight times, which may spell trouble for the visitors.
Dagenham & Redbridge have won only two of their 12 away league matches and in four of their six defeats they have failed to score, suggesting they may struggle in the final third in Gloucestershire.
Forest Green have the joint-best defensive record in the division alongside current leaders York and seventh-placed Rochdale and they may be able to grind out victory with a clean sheet.
The hosts will be well aware that they can go top with a win and they are sure to keep things tight before capitalising on their greater quality in the final third.
Christian Doidge anytime goalscorer - 1/1
Forest Green have some excellent attacking players for this level, with Kyle McAllister, Christian Doidge and Emmanuel Osadebe just three that would believe they can still cope with the challenge of a higher grade.
However, in what promises to be a contest settled by fine margins, Doidge would be the most likely goalscorer and, having gone five games without a goal, the trend is expected to change sooner rather than later.
Doidge is a clinical finisher with nine goals in 25 appearances this season and Dagenham & Redbridge have kept only two clean sheets in 12 away games, so this looks like an ideal opportunity.
The 32-year-old still has plenty to offer and it would be a big surprise was he not to be leading the line in what should be an extremely physical and demanding encounter.
