Folarin Balogun expected to leave Monaco this summer

Monaco striker Folarin Balogun is being linked with a summer move after the World Cup and clubs from across Europe are interested in his signature.

The striker is currently competing at the World Cup and has impressed with his performances for the United States, who have already secured top spot in Group D ahead of Australia, Paraguay and Turkey.

Balogun has led the line for Mauricio Pochettino's men in their opening two games and The Athletic are now reporting that the former Arsenal man is on his way out of Monaco this summer.

Balogun in the shop window on the world stage

Summer tournaments are often the catalyst for some crazy transfer business as clubs across the world utilise the international calendar to try and boost their squads.

This summer's World Cup is the biggest ever and there are bound to be plenty of transfers happening on the back of the next few weeks of action.

As co-hosts, the USA have plenty of eyes on their performances, but Balogun looks like he is relishing the attention and reports suggest he is keen to move on from Ligue 1.

The 24-year-old came through the Gunners' academy, but he only made two appearances for the first team in three years.

A loan spell at Middlesbrough saw him score three goals in 18 appearances, but it was in France where he found his feet.

Balogun scored 21 goals for Reims in 37 appearances, which caught the eye of Monaco scouts.

He has since scored 24 league goals in 72 appearances and he finished the 2025/26 campaign with 13 goals in 30 outings.

Balogun continued that form in the USA's opening World Cup fixture as he scored in his side's 4-1 win over Paraguay.

He was named player of the match for the second game in a row after a stellar display in the 2-0 success against Australia.

For the USA, Balogun has 11 goals in 29 appearances and it appears that a summer move is now inevitable, especially if he guides Pochettino's side into the latter stages of the tournament.

Monaco open to cashing in

Balogun's performances at this summer's World Cup will only increase his value and The Athletic report that Monaco are looking for a fee in the region of €50million.

Monaco would make around €20million profit after signing him in 2023, and it appears that this summer is the ideal time to sell him.

Reports with Get French Football News suggest that Balogun's exit is one of three Monaco are considering, along with Maghnes Akliouche and Lamine Camara.

Balogun's contract expires in June 2028, meaning the Ligue 1 club would get a respectable fee for his services.

Neither Monaco nor Balogun have shown interest in starting contract extension talks and it appears both parties are expected to pursue a sale once he returns from the World Cup.

Clubs in the Premier League and in Serie A are monitoring Balogun's situation and the former Arsenal man looks ready for the next step in his career.

At 24, he is still young enough to develop his skills inside the penalty box, but he has the speed needed to make it in the Premier League and there's every chance several clubs competing in Europe will soon be opening talks.
