Fluminense are one of four Brazilian teams at the Club World Cup and approach the tournament in good spirits after going on a four-match winning run.
However, they will be expecting a stern test against Borussia Dortmund, who finished the Bundesliga season in fourth place.
Dortmund are equally determined to give a good account of themselves and added to their squad last week with the signing of England Under-21 international midfielder Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland.

Best Bet: Fluminense or draw double chance @ 11/8
Borussia Dortmund are odds-on favourites to win Group F but they may struggle to get the better of Fluminense at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The markets have a lot of respect for Dortmund, who are used to going deep in the UEFA Champions League and were quarter-finalists this term, losing out 5-3 on aggregate to Barcelona.
Der BVB won their last five games of the Bundesliga season but that flurry of success papered over the cracks of an inconsistent campaign.
The Yellow-Blacks lost 11 of 34 league games and their goals conceded tally (51) was the second highest among the top seven.
Fluminense are sixth in Brazilian Serie A and are through to the knockout rounds of the Copa Sudamericana.
They are a progressive side with a nice mix of youth and experience, including 40-year-old Brazilian legend Thiago Silva, who captains the team. They can show their quality by taking a point or three in their Club World Cup opener.
Dan Childs explains:
Fluminense are approaching the Club World Cup with plenty of confidence and they look capable of causing a few problems for Dortmund, who are short odds to start with a win. Dortmund haven't played a competitive game for a month and may get better as the tournament progresses.
Under four goals
Gustavo Nonato to be carded
Jhon Arias to score or assist
Pays 22/1
Borussia Dortmund are an attack-minded side who score and concede plenty of goals. But they are unlikely to hit top form from the start of the Club World Cup and could be drawn into a tight game by a disciplined Fluminense side, who are not used to losing games.
Fluminense have conceded only three goals in the last six matches and their solid defence points towards a wager on under 3.5 goals.
The Brazilians will aim to disrupt Dortmund at every opportunity and could lean heavily on midfielder Gustavo Nonato, who likes to put his foot in. Nonato has been yellow-carded three times in his last six games and looks a strong candidate for another caution.
Offensively, the South Americans will want to utilise the pace of Colombian attacker Jhon Arias.
The 27-year-old has won 31 caps for his national team and can show his quality with a goal or an assist.

Dan Childs adds:
This Bet Builder anticipates a tight, reasonably low-scoring contest between teams which look well-matched. A physical encounter is on the cards and that won't concern robust Fluminense midfielder Gustavo Nonato, who appears overpriced for a caution. Fluminense will probably play on the counter-attack and their main threat may come from Colombian international Jhon Arias.

Fluminense club legend Renato Gaucho took over as head coach in April and is making a positive impact.
Renato's sixth spell as the club's permanent manager has featured 11 wins, two draws and just two defeats.
Fluminense are likely to look to frustrate Dortmund and use their pace on the break.
Expected Fluminense lineup: (4-3-3): Fabio; Xavier, Thiago Silva, Freytes, Rene; Nonato, Santos, Martinelli; Arias, Everaldo, Serna.
Well-travelled Croatia head coach Niko Kovac arrived at Dortmund in January, signing an 18-month contract.
He inherited a team in 11th place and steered them to a fourth-place finish, ensuring qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Kovac's side are hardly watertight, but have plenty of talent going forward.
Expected Borussia Dortmund lineup: (3-4-2-1): Kobel; Sule, Anton, Bensebaini; Ryerson, Sabitzer, Nmecha, Svensson; Brandt, Adeyemi; Guirassy.
