Fiorentina are expected to secure a home win over Udinese on Monday to stay in the hunt for a top-four place in Serie A.

Fiorentina have had a fine season so far, winning nine of their 15 Serie A games, while they have suffered just two defeats, to Atalanta and, last week, to Bologna.

They will want to work that most recent defeat out of their system quickly and should be able to do so by securing a positive result on Monday.

La Viola stayed well on course to qualify for the next stage of the UEFA Conference League with a 1-1 draw against Vitoria Guimaraes on Thursday but now they must quickly refocus on domestic duties when they go up against Udinese, who are 11 points behind having played a game more.

That large gap suggests Fiorentina remain a much better outfit than Monday's opponents, who finished seven places and 23 points worse off in Serie A last season, so a home win looks very likely.

The hosts can maintain that sort of goalscoring form to help them secure victory in what should be a pre-Christmas boost for La Viola.

Udinese can play their part, too, while it's worth remembering that the last time they met, in January, the two sides played out a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Forward Lorenzo Lucca is Udinese's top scorer with five league goals and while he will be keen to improve that record against Fiorentina, he could also be in trouble with the referee on Monday.

Lucca has been booked four times in Serie A already this season but that figure could be higher as the 24-year-old has committed 29 fouls - eight more than anyone else in the Udinese squad.

With Fiorentina expected to dominate possession at home, Lucca may find himself having to track back as he tries to disrupt their flow and giving away more free-kicks may well follow.
