Feyenoord v PSV Eindhoven: Prediction, Tips and Odds

All of a sudden the title race is on in the Eredivisie and PSV Eindhoven will be hoping to put further pressure on league leaders Ajax by claiming a victory at Feyenoord on Sunday.

Peter Bosz' side had pretty much given up any hopes of retaining their title after losing at home to Ajax at the end of March, a result that left them nine points behind the Amsterdam club at the top of the standings.

However, while PSV have won all four of their matches since, Ajax have taken just one point from their last six available, following up a shock 4-0 defeat at Utrecht with an underwhelming 1-1 home draw with Sparta Rotterdam.

That means there are just four points between the two sides heading into Sunday's action and with Ajax not playing until later in the day, PSV could close that gap to one. That may be easier said than done, however, against third-placed Feyenoord.

Robin van Persie's hosts are also in form, winning seven on the bounce, and they can move to within two points of PSV with a victory, while also keeping fourth-placed Utrecht at arm's length.

Feyenoord v PSV Eindhoven betting tips and predictions

Over 3.5 goals - 1/1

PSV may not have been expecting Ajax to slip up in the title race, but they have certainly made sure they were still ready for that eventuality, not only winning all four of their matches since that 2-0 loss to the league leaders on 30th March, but scoring 15 goals in the process.

It should be no surprise Bosz' men have been amongst the goals, as they are by far and away the leading scorers in the Eredivisie this season, netting 93 times across their 31 games, which is 30 more than Ajax and 21 better than the next best team.

That team is Feyenoord, who after a slow start under former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Van Persie - failing to win any of his first three matches in charge - have since triumphed in seven games on the spin.

The Rotterdam-based club have scored an eye-watering 24 goals during that winning sequence, a run that includes a 6-2 success, a 4-0 victory and a pair of 4-1s.

These are two sides that see attack as the best form of defence, and given PSV realistically need to win to keep the heat on Ajax and anything less than a victory will leave Feyenoord's hopes of finishing second in tatters, this should be an open, potentially end-to-end-contest.

This is a fixture that is certainly no stranger to producing goals, as in the season-opening Johan Cruyff Shield in August, they shared eight between them in a 4-4 draw - Feyenoord then prevailing 4-2 on penalties - so it is easy to see at least four more being netted on Sunday.

Ivan Perisic to score or assist - 5/4

After joining PSV Eindhoven in September, 36-year-old Ivan Perisic has been proving age is just a number, netting 14 goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions.

Nine of those goal involvements have come across his last six appearances, including scoring a hat-trick in last weekend's 4-1 home success over Fortuna Sittard.

Perisic, who is also still catching the eye on the international stage for Croatia after netting and producing an assist in March's UEFA Nations League quarter-final tie with France, also provided two assists in December's reverse meeting with Feyenoord at the Philips Stadion - a match PSV won 3-0.

Out of contract at the end of the season, Perisic is currently in negotiations over a new deal. A goal or an assist in this game would certainly help his cause.

Igor Paixao to score at any time - 15/8

Feyenoord have shared the goals around this season, so much so that Santiago Gimenez, who left the club to join AC Milan at the end of the winter transfer window, remains their joint-leading scorer with 16 goals across all competitions.

The other Feyenoord player on 16 goals is Brazilian winger Igor Paixao, who has netted five times across the club's last three home fixtures, including braces in the wins over Groningen and PEC Zwolle.

In the 6-2 away win at Twente in the middle of March, Paixao had a remarkable five goal involvements - netting a hat-trick and providing two assists.

He is a player in form and he could play a starring role for the hosts at De Kuip.
