Everton v Crystal Palace: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Neither Everton nor Crystal Palace have yet to secure a Premier League victory from five attempts this season and the pressure will be on at Goodison Park to get off the mark.

The Toffees had lost four league games in a row prior to last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Leicester City, while Palace picked up their third stalemate of the campaign in a goalless game at home to Manchester United.

Everton, often renowned for a steely defence under manager Sean Dyche, have the joint-leakiest defence in the Premier League this season with 14 goals conceded across their five outings.

Palace, meanwhile, had conceded seven times in four fixtures prior to last weekend’s bore draw with United, suggesting this could be an entertaining encounter on Merseyside between two sides desperate for maximum points.

Over 2.5 goals - 10/11

Both Premier League meetings between this pair last season saw both teams find the net, with Everton winning in a 3-2 thriller at Selhurst Park in November before the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in February.

With no clean sheet in five games this season and 14 goals conceded, it is hard to have much faith in Everton’s defence against a Palace frontline armed with the services of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eberechi Eze.

Prior to their recent 1-1 draw with Leicester, Everton had blown two goal leads to lose 3-2 against Bournemouth and Aston Villa, while they were earlier beaten 4-0 at Tottenham and 3-0 when hosting Brighton.

That shows the defensive difficulties that the Toffees are facing, although they may be bolstered by the return of highly-touted centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

Everton have at least found their scoring boots in recent weeks, though, and having star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit and firing is vital to their chances.

The Toffees should be optimistic of causing problems for a Palace side who have already conceded twice against Brentford, West Ham and Leicester this season.

Even in last weekend’s 0-0 draw with United, the Red Devils had 15 shots and were extremely wasteful, especially in the opening half in which they dominated.

Palace have managed only one clean sheet in their last 15 away games, with both teams scoring in 12 of those outings, so this could be a pretty lively encounter.

Five of Everton’s last six Premier League games have gone over 2.5 goals and this clash with Palace looks a nice price to follow suit.

Eberechi Eze to score at anytime - 3/1

In the midst of Michael Olise’s high-profile departure to Bayern Munich, Eze has become Palace’s main man and the 26-year-old is a strong contender to get on the scoresheet in a game that should deliver goals.

Eze has been trigger-happy when in range in the Premier League this season, registering 20 shots in five appearances, with only Manchester City ace Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo of Bournemouth having more efforts on goal.

The Palace creator has grabbed three goals in seven games in all competitions this term, while he finished last season with five goals in six Premier League outings.

Eze was on target in Palace’s 3-2 defeat at home to Everton last season and he can repay the favour with a goal at Goodison Park.

Ashley Young to be shown a card - 7/2

Ashley Young continues to be relied upon by Dyche despite now being 39 years of age and Palace’s pacey frontline are sure to cause him problems.

Young has played the full 90 minutes in Everton’s last two league matches against Leicester and Villa and injuries in the full-back department mean he is likely to feature once more.

Young was sent off in Everton’s season opener with Brighton and he has also been booked against League Two outfit Doncaster in the EFL Cup and in the 3-2 defeat at his former club Aston Villa.

The former Man Utd man collected seven yellow cards in 31 Premier League appearances last season and another booking may follow at home to Palace.
