Euros: 10 potential breakout stars

With all 24 nations known and the group stage draw of the Euros completed, our attention now turns to 10 players that could make telling contributions in Germany this summer.

Euro 2024

Lamine Yamal - Spain

Spain's squad is full of talent and one player that stands out is Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, who has already been capped six times at the mere age of 16.

The winger has become an established player for the Catalans this season, scoring four times and registering three assists in La Liga, and he can showcase his talents on one of the biggest stages this summer.

Maximilian Beier - Germany

Host nation Germany will be under pressure to deliver the goods on home soil and one player that could help them achieve this is Maximilian Beier, who is still waiting for his first senior cap.

The 21-year-old has netted 13 times for Hoffenheim this season, leaving only Deniz Undav (15) ahead of him in the Bundesliga scoring charts for German players, and he could show his worth if given an international chance by Julian Nagelsmann.

Alex Baena - Spain

Another Spanish player capable of playing a big part is Villarreal's Alex Baena, who brings plenty of creativity and scoring threat from midfield.

The 22-year-old, who has one goal from his two caps, has notched a leading nine assists for the Yellow Submarine this term and that cutting edge can help La Roja go deep.

Jarrad Branthwaite - England

Spots are up for grabs in England's defence and Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite will be hoping he can force his way into Gareth Southgate's plans this summer.

Although the Toffees are struggling, the 21-year-old has been receiving rave reviews for his performances and while he is yet to be capped for the Three Lions at senior level, he looks like one of the best options available to Southgate.

Kobbie Mainoo - England

Manchester United look to have unearthed a real talent in midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and his displays in the recent international break, where he earned his first two senior caps, look to have earned him a spot on the plane to Germany.

The 18-year-old showed a real matureness in the middle of the park, trusting his ability when under pressure and also providing a threat when driving forward. He has the potential to be a real star for his country.

Warren Zaire-Emery - France

France also seem to have a talented midfielder on their books in the shape of Warren Zaire-Emery, who has been part of Paris Saint-Germain's first-team squad since the 2022/23 campaign.

The 18-year-old has seen increased starting opportunities this season and both of his senior France caps have come this term, highlighting the progression he has been making.

Blessed with superb technical ability, Zaire-Emery brings good balance to the midfield and could be a real asset for Didier Deschamps.

Arthur Vermeeren - Belgium

Belgium's so-called 'Golden Generation' is now over but they do have some big talents coming through, one of those being midfielder Arthur Vermeeren.

The 19-year-old impressed for Antwerp before earning a move to Atletico Madrid in January, so he clearly has something about him to earn a switch to the Spanish capital.

Described by Mark Van Bommel as a "smart footballer that is eager to learn", Vermeeren looks like a real talent and one that could gain a lot from this international tournament.

Leo Sauer - Slovakia

Housed with Belgium, Ukraine and Romania, Slovakia will fancy their chances of getting out of the group and one player that could play a big role in this is Feyenoord's Leo Sauer, who has looked solid from limited appearances this season.

The 18-year-old winger has bagged twice from 10 Eredivisie matches and he would bring extra attacking input to a Slovakia squad that looks a little short on goals.

Arda Guler - Turkey

Dubbed by local media as the 'Turkish Messi', it would be amiss not to have Turkey's Arda Guler on this list. The 19-year-old is creative, quick-footed and a set-piece specialist, making him a huge asset for club and country.

Guler's move to Real Madrid in July 2023 started off in frustrating circumstances due to a number of injuries, but he has produced some eye-catching cameos in 2024 and he should be fresh and raring to go in Germany.

Francisco Conceicao - Portugal

Rounding off the list is Portugal's Francisco Conceicao, who has looked back to his best since returning to Porto on loan from Ajax in September.

The 21-year-old is quick, has an eye for goal and looks set to cause havoc to opposition defenders, if given the chance by head coach Roberto Martinez this summer.
