We highlight all of the English managers to have won a major trophy in English football this century after Eddie Howe guided Newcastle United to the EFL Cup in 2024/25.
Prior to Eddie Howe's exploits with Newcastle, Steve McClaren was the last English manager to win the League Cup, leading Middlesbrough to the trophy in 2004.
The first major honour in the club's history, Boro edged Bolton 2-1 in the final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff with Joseph-Desire Job and Boudewijn Zenden netting in the second and seventh minutes respectively for the Teessiders.
Formerly Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant manager at Manchester United, McClaren spent five years in charge of Boro between 2001 and 2006 before landing the England job.
As well as winning the League Cup in 2004, McClaren also led Boro to the UEFA Cup final in 2006 before the Teessiders succumbed 4-0 to Sevilla in the final in Eindhoven.
Harry Redknapp is the most recent English manager to have lifted the FA Cup, inspiring Portsmouth to the trophy back in 2008.
Pompey clinched the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Cardiff City in the final at Wembley, with Nigerian icon Nwanku Kanu netting the match's only goal in the 37th minute.
Redknapp's success with Portsmouth prompted Tottenham Hotspur to appoint him as their new manager following the departure of Juande Ramos in October 2008.
Eddie Howe became the first English manager since Harry Redknapp in 2008 to win a major trophy following Newcastle's triumph over Liverpool in the 2025 EFL Cup final at Wembley.
In a compelling coincidence, Howe was in fact Redknapp's first signing in his first spell in charge of Portsmouth - acquiring the centre-back for £400,000 from Bournemouth in May 2002.
Howe's Magpies ended a 70-year barren spell without a domestic trophy in 2025 as they downed Arne Slot's Liverpool 2-1 courtesy of goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.
