England v Slovakia stats and head-to-head record (H2H)

England have won five of their six meetings with Slovakia and three of those victories were by a 2-1 scoreline.

The exception came at Euro 2016, when Slovakia held out for a goalless draw during the group stage, and England's Group C games at this tournament have also been low-scoring contests.

Gareth Southgate's men beat Serbia 1-0 before a 1-1 draw with Denmark and a 0-0 stalemate against Slovenia on matchday three.

Slovakia finished third in Group E, following up their surprise opening win over Belgium with a 2-1 defeat to Ukraine and a 1-1 draw with Romania.

Forward Ivan Schranz scored twice in the group stage – matching the goal tally of the entire England team at these Euros.

England v Slovakia team news

England team news

England are expected to make changes after their disappointing goalless draw with Slovenia. Kobbie Mainoo is set to replace Conor Gallagher in central midfield but Luke Shaw may not be fit enough to start at left-back after a long injury lay-off.

Phil Foden rejoined the squad on Friday after the birth of his third child although his place on the left flank is under threat from Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon.

Slovakia team news

Slovakia have no fresh injury concerns or suspensions so the main selection dilemma for coach Francesco Calzona is who will start at centre-forward.

David Strelec led the line in the final group game against Romania but Boavista striker Robert Bozenik, who started the first two matches, could replace him in Gelsenkirchen.
