England v Bosnia-Herzegovina: Prediction, Tips and Odds

England may not fire on all cylinders for their friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday but Gareth Southgate's men should grind out a morale-boosting victory as they build up to Euro 2024.

England manager Southgate has named a 33-man provisional squad for Euro 2024, so plenty of players are hoping to catch the eye when the Three Lions take on Bosnia-Herzegovina in Monday's friendly at St James' Park.

England v Bosnia-Herzegovina betting tips and predictions

England to win & under 3.5 goals - 11/10

England had a couple of tough friendlies at Wembley in March when they lost 1-0 to Brazil and needed an injury-time goal from Jude Bellingham to salvage a 2-2 draw with Belgium.

Before those results, however, the Three Lions had won 12 non-competitive fixtures in a row and they should be too slick for Bosnia-Herzegovina in Newcastle on Monday night.

The visitors missed out on a place at the Euros after conceding two late goals in a 2-1 playoff semi-final defeat to Ukraine in March.

They got into the playoffs on the strength of their Nations League performances after a dismal qualifying campaign in which they beat Liechtenstein at home and away but lost seven of their other eight games in Group J.

This is the start of a new era for Bosnia after the retirement of star playmaker Miralem Pjanic and the appointment of rookie coach Sergej Barbarez, who is 12/1 to enjoy a winning debut at St James' Park.

Experienced defenders Sead Kolasinac and Ermin Bicakcic are expected to miss out but Bosnia's other players, like their English counterparts, are eager to impress their manager and they can keep the scoreline respectable.

They have lost eight of their last 10 internationals but six of those defeats featured under 3.5 goals, as did their two qualifying victories over Liechtenstein.

Eberechi Eze to be first goalscorer - 7/1

Record scorer Harry Kane dominates the goalscoring markets but England boss Southgate may choose to rest the prolific Bayern Munich striker in order to assess understudies Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney.

Attacking stars Bellingham and Phil Foden are also having a breather after playing in the Champions League and FA Cup finals respectively, while Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon are set to return to action against Iceland on Friday.

Those absences may offer an opportunity for Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze, who finished the Premier League season in sensational form.

Injuries disrupted the start of Eze's 2023/24 campaign, but he still ended up with 11 league goals from just 24 starts for the Eagles and averaged 3.1 shots per game.

In his last six appearances, five of which were against top-half teams, he scored five goals from 25 shots and he is worth backing to open his goalscoring account for England on Monday.

Anel Ahmedhodzic to be booked - 7/2

Bosnia defender Anel Ahmedhodzic probably feels he could do with a break after a chastening season for the Premier League's bottom club Sheffield United, who conceded a record total of 104 goals in 38 matches.

Ahmedhodzic's personal performances were not bad on the whole, but he was sent off for two bookable offences in May's defeat to Nottingham Forest, having been cautioned in nine of his previous 27 league starts.

After a long, hard club campaign, the 25-year-old could struggle against England's pacy, tricky attacking stars and he is worth backing to be shown a card at 7/2.

Ahmedhodzic was booked in his last outing for Bosnia - the playoff defeat to Ukraine - and he may well add to his card collection on Monday.
