Dynamo Kyiv v Rangers: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Rangers opened their Scottish Premiership campaign with a 0-0 draw at Hearts on Saturday, and will hope to make a better first impression when they get their European journey underway in Lublin on Tuesday.

They will be taking on Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv - they are the designated hosts with the match played at a neutral venue - who made this third round of qualifying by thrashing Partizan Belgrade 9-2 on aggregate, suggesting this will be no walk in the park for the Gers.

Dynamo Kyiv v Rangers betting tips and predictions

Dynamo Kyiv to win @ 6/5

Dynamo have failed to make the Champions League proper since the 2021/22 season, where they were drawn into a group of death including Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Benfica, but they will be feeling confident of going far this time after steamrolling Partizan 9-2 in the second round of qualifying.

Two legs against Rangers stand between themselves and the play-off round, and given the Light Blues have shown some serious weakness over the past few months, there is every chance Dynamo Kyiv can land a win on Tuesday.

The Gers were held to a 0-0 draw by Hearts in their Scottish Premiership opener on Saturday and they were lucky to even come away from Tynecastle with a point. That result was not a complete surprise though, as Rangers failed to win a single game in pre-season and also went winless in their final two matches of last term.

The Jam Tarts won the shot count 17-7 in that clash, despite Philippe Clement's side's domination of the possession, which could give Dynamo some ideas ahead of Tuesday.

Dynamo Kyiv may allow the Gers to have the majority of the ball in Lublin before springing counter-attacks led by the likes of Ukrainian Euros star Mykola Shaparenko and veteran winger Andriy Yarmolenko.

They definitely have the tools to hurt Rangers and given they have won 10 of their last 11 competitive games, they should have enough to take a lead to Glasgow next week.

Under 2.5 goals @ 21/20

While Dynamo should win, they are unlikely to run away with things in Lublin. They put three past Partizan last week, but Rangers should provide more resistance than the Serbian side.

Three of the Gers' last four Champions League qualifying away legs have stayed under 2.5 goals.

They topped their Europa League group last season before narrowly losing a round-of-16 tie with Benfica 3-2, highlighting their European pedigree.

Before putting six past Partizan two weeks ago, Dynamo had gone nine Champions League home matches without scoring more than a single goal, drawing a blank six times in that run.

They are not a prolific side in Europe, even if they are domestically, and new signing Robin Propper should add strength to an already resolute Rangers defence.

Dynamo Kyiv should win, but only by a one or two goal margin, which would leave the tie hanging in the balance ahead of the second leg in Glasgow.

Vitaliy Buyalskyi anytime goalscorer @ 15/4

Dynamo had eight different scorers in the last round, with Oleksandr Karavayev the only player to net twice across the two legs with Partizan, making narrowing down a goalscorer for their clash with Rangers a somewhat difficult task.

Karavayev, former West Ham man Yarmolenko and Euros scorer Shaparenko will all have their backers, but it is actually a player who didn't net against Partizan who makes the most appeal at a big price.

Vitaliy Buyalskyi has hit double digits for goals in the Ukrainian top flight in his past two seasons and scored nine in just 16 games the season before, with the 31-year-old gaining plaudits for adding an attacking threat from midfield across his 10 years with Dynamo.

His ability to arrive late into the box and strike from distance could prove pivotal in this clash, as Rangers' engine room looked weak on Saturday. Neither Connor Barron nor Mohamed Diomande made an interception at Tynecastle and Hearts' midfielders had a field day as a result.

Jorge Grant had two shots while Lawrence Shankland, who is usually a forward but was playing in attacking midfield on Saturday, registered five. If the Gers' midfield pairing is that passable again on Tuesday, proven goalscorer Buyalskyi could easily find the net in Lublin.
