Dundee v Rangers: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Rangers will look to keep up the pressure on title rivals Celtic when they head to Dens Park to face Dundee on Sunday and, while the Gers are expected to take three points, it may not be quite as simple as the prices suggest.

The Light Blues will have been bitterly disappointed to lose to Benfica in the Europa League on Thursday and it’s possible that intense contest may have left its mark in more ways than just the blow of falling out of European competition.

Dundee v Rangers betting tips and predictions

Under 2.5 goals - 7/5

Philippe Clement’s side put a huge physical effort into the two legs against the Portuguese giants and it’s a short turnaround from Thursday on the trip to Dundee on Sunday.

Of course, Clement has the scope to make changes to his side, but there are a fair few injuries at Ibrox and it may not be possible to freshen up the team in every area of the pitch.

Danilo, Abdallah Sima, Ryan Jack, Kieran Dowell, Oscar Cortes and Alex Lowry are all out injured and Ross McCausland wasn’t fit enough to get any game time against Benfica on Thursday night.

That certainly limits Clement’s options and we saw in the defeat to Motherwell at the start of the month that Rangers struggled to back up after a tricky midweek tie.

Dundee were defensively sound when beating Aberdeen 1-0 on Wednesday and Tony Docherty’s side limited the Dons to just two shots on target at Dens Park.

That victory moved the Dark Blues into the top-six positions in the Scottish Premiership, but there are concerns going forward for Docherty’s men.

Star midfielder Josh Mulligan has picked up a hamstring injury and he joins Liverpool loanee Owen Beck, first-choice keeper Trevor Carson, Jordan McGhee, Zach Robinson, Ryan Howley, Diego Pineda and Lee Ashcroft on the sidelines.

That’s a huge blow to a small Dundee squad and it may see a side that has conceded only three goals in their last four home games go further into their shell.

At the prices, it could pay to expect a cagey affair at Dens Park and under 2.5 goals looks to be the play.

Over 4.5 cards - 5/6

There will be a fair few changes to the starting line-ups of both teams on Sunday, but that is unlikely to alter the commitment of the two teams.

No side has been shown more red cards than the four Rangers have picked up in the SPL this term and Dundee are only one behind on three.

The Dee have collected 58 cautions this season and the two previous meetings between these sides this season have been pretty spicy affairs.

There were five yellows issued in November’s clash at Dens Park and then five cautions and one red card in December’s meeting at Ibrox.

Don Robertson, who has dished out 44 yellows and four reds in 13 Premiership appearances this term, takes charge and it seems likely that the referee will be kept busy on Sunday.

Over 10.5 corners - 8/11

Rangers could well struggle to break down Dundee, if they are slightly off the pace after Thursday night’s exertions, but the Gers are the corner kings.

The Light Blues registered eight flags-kicks against top-level opposition in Europe on Thursday and Clement’s men have earned 33 corners in their last four domestic fixtures.

Dundee have had 48 flag-kicks in their eight games, that includes four against Celtic and a whopping 13 at home to St Johnstone.

The Dee certainly look capable of contributing to the tally and backing over 10.5 corners looks worth a punt at Dens Park.
