Dundee and Hibernian prepare to do battle in a crucial Scottish Premiership encounter at Dens Park this Saturday.
Neither side is in particularly good form, with Dundee losing their third game in four when they went down 4-1 to Aberdeen at Pittodrie before the international break.
Hibs are winless in seven and the pressure is mounting on David Gray, who initially took over on a caretaker basis in May.
The Easter Road club are currently on a truly dismal run of form and, with only one win in 13 across all competitions, they remain rooted to the foot of the Scottish Premiership.
Both teams to score - Yes @ 4/6
There will be an onus on both teams to attack because of their unfolding predicaments.
Attack has probably been Dundee’s best form of defence of late, as was shown in their come-from-behind win over Kilmarnock earlier this month.
Trailing 2-0 at home after 40 minutes, Tony Docherty’s side threw caution to the wind and secured a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory.
That was the ninth straight home league game involving Dundee that has seen both teams score, including all six Premiership clashes at Dens Park this season.
Only three of Hibs’ six away assignments this term have featured goals at both ends, but their final eight away Premiership games of the 2023/24 campaign did.
This match appears set up for a goal-fest, with both teams clearly capable of finding the net.
Simon Murray to score anytime @ 11/5
Dundee will be missing a couple of key players this weekend, with midfielder Scott Fraser set for an operation and full-back Ziyad Larkeche undergoing treatment for a hamstring injury.
Larkeche is the club’s second-top scorer with three goals this season, with summer signing Simon Murray currently the only other Dens Park star with more than two league strikes to his name.
A few eyebrows were raised when the Dee agreed to pay a fee to bring Murray across from Ross County, but the experienced striker has hit the ground running with four goals in 12 starts for the club.
Murray runs all day and rarely gives defenders a moment of peace, characteristics that could be beneficial against his former club Hibs who have been punished many times when playing out from the back this season.
Correct score - 2-2 @ 12/1
Given the recent form and past encounters, a draw seems the most likely outcome in Saturday’s contest.
Only Ross County (six) have recorded more draws in the Premiership than Hibs (five) this season.
Gray’s team seem unable to convert winning positions into three points, such as in their recent 1-1 draw with Dundee United when they conceded a stoppage-time penalty.
The Hibees also squandered a big opportunity to move off the bottom in the Edinburgh derby last month when James Wilson’s 86th-minute leveller secured a point for Hearts.
A 1-1 or 2-2 scoreline would not be surprising given how evenly matched these two clubs are in terms of quality, confidence and form right now.
Five of the last 10 Premiership matches between the two have finished all square and, of those draws, three of them were deadlocked at 2-2 when the final whistle blew.
